Cozy Food Friday!

That means it's time to share a recipe from
another great cozy mystery!

Today's recipe comes from
Book 1 in the Bakeshop Mystery series
by Ellie Alexander

Welcome to Torte—a friendly, small-town family bake shop where the treats are so good that, sometimes, it’s criminal…

After graduating from culinary school, Juliet Capshaw returns to her quaint hometown of Ashland, Oregon, to heal a broken heart and help her mom at the family bakery. The Oregon Shakespeare Festival is bringing in lots of tourists looking for some crumpets to go with their heroic couplets. But when one of Torte’s customers turns up dead, there’s much ado about murder…

"Sure to satisfy both dedicated foodies and ardent mystery lovers alike."

--Jessie Crockett, author of Drizzled with Death

The victim is Nancy Hudson, the festival’s newest board member. A modern-day Lady Macbeth, Nancy has given more than a few actors and artists enough reasons to kill her…but still. The silver lining? Jules’s high school sweetheart, Thomas, is the investigator on the case. His flirtations are as delicious as ever, and Jules can’t help but want to have her cake and eat it too. But will she have her just desserts? Murder might be bad for business, but love is the sweetest treat of all…

"Alexander weaves a tasty tale of deceit, family ties, delicious pastries, and murder.” ―Edith Maxwell, author of A Tine to Live, A Tine to Die

On to the recipe!

1 egg
1/3 cup olive oil
2/3 cup heavy cream
1 1/2 cups tapioca flour
1/2 cup grated farmer's cheese
1 teaspoon salt

Add flour first, followed by remaining ingredients, to a blender and blend on low speed until the mixture is thin and creamy.

Preheat oven to 400 degrees and grease muffin tray.

Fill muffin tins with batter and bake at 400 degrees for 20 minutes or until the muffins puff up.

Jules likes to add a variety of fillings to these muffins. Try some of her favorite combinations by pressing into the center of the batter before baking: jalapeƱos, black olives and cheddar cheese, rosemary and garlic, and goat cheese and sundried tomatoes.

MEET YOUR BAKER by Ellie Alexander
Book 1 in the Bakeshop Mystery series

They say it takes a while to recover your land legs after years spent at sea. I sure hoped mine would come back soon.

It has been twenty-seven hours and forty-two minutes (not that I was counting) since I had left the ship, my husband, and everything I'd known for the last ten years.

"Jules, come on. You have to know that people are naturally drawn to you, and it's not just because you make a killer croissant."

Heat rose in my cheeks.

  1. Hi, Lisa. Those muffins look yummy!

    1. Hey Pat. Honestly, my stomach growls every time I set up Cozy Food Friday. One time I posted a recipe that I knew I myself would not like, my stomach still growled!

  2. This book sounds like a lot of fun and I'm loving the pig gif xD Also, once again you have forced me to save this post among my favourites so I can revisit for the recipe! Damn you ;) Thanks for sharing :) I hope you have an amazing weekend!

    1. Looks like you and I were in each other's blog at the same time! LOL Juli, the recipes are how I keep you all coming back! All part of my evil paln. :-) As for the pig, he made me smile, so I thought I'd share him with the world (or at least the fraction of it that reads my blog).

  3. I loved this book and the cheese muffins were one of the recipes I wanted to try. Great choices on the excerpts!

    1. Katherine, I'm late getting to reading it, but I'm really enjoying it so far! And thanks for the kind words. The excerpts were tricky this time. You've made me feel better about my choice!

  4. Those muffins look delicious. (I'm assuming that's 1 1/2 CUPS of tapioca flour -- right?) Meet Your Baker sounds like a delightful book. I've been to Ashland, Oregon, so it would be fun to read a story set there.
Thank you for stopping by my blog and taking the time to leave a comment.

  5. Sandra, you think 11 cups may be too much? ;-) Yes, 1 1/2. Thanks for dropping by!

    1. LOL. Yes, I do! But the recipe doesn't say "cups."

  6. LOL I read that, re-read, and re-re-read that and never noticed that! It says cups now. :-) Thanks!

  7. Ooh, love a good cozy...and delicious food. Thanks for sharing, and for visiting my blog.

    1. Thank you for stopping by here! I'm still reading it, by really enjoying it.

  8. 'killer croissant', is this a pun? I'm a sucker for puns and delicious food. Happy reading!

    1. Alicia, cozy mysteries are full of great puns! Thanks for coming by!

  9. I love Cozy Food Friday. I love to cook and I'm always looking for new recipes. This cover of "Meet Your Baker" looks like it would also fit my cozy. The cheese muffins look yummy.

Lisa do you actually try all of these recipes? I see the photos are from Pinterest. I love Pinterest and have lots of recipes on my boards.

Looking forward to next week's. Have a great weekend, everyone!

    Susan Bernhardt

    1. Susan, I always plan to try one of them. When I do, I'll post my own pictures rather it turns out of not. ;-)

Thank you for supporting my blog. I have a lot of fun with it and with Cozy Food Friday.

  10. I read this one earlier in the year and enjoyed it. Great characters. I'm looking forward to the second in the series.

    Thanks for visiting my blog.

    1. Catherine, I've had this one in my TBR since it came out. I'm glad to finally be reading it. It's really good. Thanks for visiting!
