THE COZY TIMES
This is a weekly online publication focused on connecting cozy mystery readers to favorite cozy characters by way of their town's newspapers.
The Cozy Times will be available every Wednesday right here on Lisa Ks blog.
Today I'm featuring the
Greenwich Village Gazette
Let's check out what's going on in
Greenwich, New York.
BODY FOUND BY BARISTA
The body of Italian jewelry designer Gustavo “Gus” Campana was
found in his West Village home by local coffeehouse manager Clare Cosi.
“I think someone poisoned him,” Ms. Cosi was overheard whispering
to her globetrotting ex-husband, Matt Allegro, who sources beans for their
landmark coffee shop.
The elderly Mr. Campana, whose custom-designed jewelry is a
favorite of pop stars and princesses alike, was rushed to Beth Israel Medical
Center, where he has yet to regain consciousness.
When asked to comment for the record, Ms. Cosi was silenced by her
octogenarian boss, undisputed queen of the Greenwich Village coffee scene. “Don’t
indulge in hearsay, dear,” Mrs. Dreyfus Allegro Dubois told this reporter. “Talk
to the police.
”Easier said than done! The NYPD’s 6th Precinct had no official
comment, although an anonymous source claimed Mr. Campana’s estranged son-in-law
was the last person to see him alive. Or was he? Watch this column for breaking
news on this developing story.
POLICE SHOOTER STILL AT
LARGE
The city that never sleeps is on edge with yet another police
shooting. Detective Michael R.F. Quinn, head of the NYPD’s famous O.D. Squad, praised
one of his officers, who pulled the wounded traffic enforcement agent out of
harm’s way. “Sergeant Franco handled the incident with courage and composure,”
Quinn said. Like the brass above him, he denied a serial sniper was to blame (in
his public statement). But during a coffee break at The Village Blend, this
reporter overheard Quinn privately speculate that a single shooter with a
grudge against cops may be the perpetrator.
SUPERHERO EXTRAVAGANZA
POW! BAM!
An action-packed charity stage show is in rehearsal with the
“world’s greatest superheroes,” according to Tucker Burton, who is writing and
directing the show for kids with cancer. Though Tucker’s day job involves
pulling perfect espressos at The Village Blend, he moonlights as a director of
downtown cabarets and his many children’s theater credits include the smash hit
of Central Park’s recent Fairy Tale Festival: Mother Goosed! While this reporter could not gain access to Tucker’s
closed rehearsals, local slam poetess Esther Best was overheard griping about
“men in tights being so-five-minutes ago.” Her roommate Nancy disagreed,
calling the cast “smokin’ hot,” and the actor/model playing Superman (what
else?) “super!”
Today's Cozy Times was based on the events in Cleo Coyle’s new Coffeehouse Mystery DEAD COLD BREW (#16 in the series), coming from Penguin Random House January 10, 2017.
THE PERFECT PROPOSAL LEADS TO A CHILLING COLD CASE...
Coffeehouse manager Clare Cosi sheds tears of joy when her NYPD detective boyfriend surprises her with an engagement ring. But her bridal bliss is put on hold when a chilling mystery brings a wave of deadly danger to those she holds dear...
After everything Clare and Mike have been through, they deserve a little bit of happily ever after. So when Mike decides to put a ring on Clare's finger, Clare's eccentric octogenarian employer is there to help. She donates the perfect coffee-colored diamonds to include in the setting and the name of a world-famous jeweler who happens to be an old family friend. But while the engagement is steeped in perfection, the celebration is not long lived.
First, a grim-faced attorney interrupts their party with a mysterious letter bequeathing a strange, hidden treasure to Clare's daughter. Next, the renowned jeweler who designed Clare's ring is found poisoned in his shop. Both events appear to be connected to a cold case murder involving a sunken ship, an Italian curse, a suspiciously charming jewel thief, and a shocking family secret. With deadly trouble brewing, Clare must track down clues in some of New York's most secret places before an old vendetta starts producing fresh corpses.
With recipes to die for, including how to make cold-brew coffee at home!

ReplyDeleteI will for sure have this book by the 23rd if I have to buy it for my own birthday! My husband says I am to compulsive about your stories - how is that posssible? I have everyone in paperback because that's how they started out. Since I can't wait for the paperback I also have the newer ones in hardcover. I do not see this as a problem with these books :) .
ReplyDeleteI am addicted to your novels. Love, love, love Coffeehouse Mysteries with Clare Cosi!
ReplyDeleteThis series sounds great!
ReplyDeleteI absolutely love the Coffee House mysteries. Most series lose steam after the first 3 but Cleo Coyle is still going strong. I cannot wait to read this one.
ReplyDeleteI love this series and I'm ready for the next!
ReplyDeleteI can honestly say that the Coffeehouse Series has been one of my top three mysteries where I have never missed reading one book. These stories are like the finest quality Espresso to me.... Being robust, full of "flavor" (for sure), super rich and super-charged in story content and character history and development. I cannot ever seem to get enough of the "caffeine" that I crave from these books and so definitely need periodically but that jolt always seems to be available when I need it most. And the baristas who serve us this fine product are heaven sent. Thank you Cleo and Marc for enriching your readers lives.
