BOOK TOUR
I'm excited to be a stop on the blog tour for
MURDER BY THE SEA
Book 3 in the By the Sea Mysteries
by Kathleen Bridge
When a murderer crashes a masquerade ball, it's up to Liz to unmask the killer . . .
It's been quite a year for novelist Liz Holt. She's overcome a lot and is finally feeling at peace with her new life at her family's hotel, the Indialantic by the Sea, on the beautiful barrier island of Melbourne Beach, Florida. She's ready to ring in the New Year at the Florida Writes Literary Masquerade Ball.
But when her ex-boyfriend surprises her at the ball, she can't disguise her anger, and the two engage in a very public argument. When her ex turns up on the hotel grounds, shot through the heart, Liz finds herself topping the suspect list. With the help of family and friends, she needs to clear her name before the real killer waltzes away scot-free . . .

A talk with Kathleen
LKBR: Thank you for being here today, Kathleen!
KB: My
pleasure!
LKBR: Please
tell us a bit about you, and your book/series.
KB:I’ve
recently moved from Long Island to a barrier island on the Central East Coast
of Florida. There is a lot of history on the island, including sunken treasure
from a fleet of eighteenth-century Spanish galleons netting fortune hunters
millions of dollars in gold. (and as a side note—they’re still finding gold
doubloons washing ashore today!) I also found an old postcard from a resort
that opened in 1926 called the Indialantic by the Sea Hotel and dug into its
history. It was demolished decades ago but it still lives on in my A By the Sea
Mystery Series. Murder by the Sea is the third book in the Series and opens
with a Literary Masquerade Ball that takes place on New Year’s Eve where
someone might or might not get murdered.
LKBR: Any hints
or spoilers you can give us about your next book?
KB: The
reason and person responsible for my protagonist, Liz Holt’s scar on her right
cheek will be revealed, with a twist.
LKBR: Have you ever written a scene that you loved but had to
remove it for the sake of the story?
KB: Yes. I
love researching things. In my By the Sea Series Aunt Amelia is a prolific
television character actress from the 1960s-1970s so I had to mine through lots
of TVland memories and do a lot of editing so I don’t lose the narrative or
veer away from the plot.
LKBR: Have you ever
gotten reader’s block? Just find it hard to get into reading
because you are so into your writing?
KB: My reader’s block
comes from writing two series a year and not having much time to read. I would
say I never have a hard time getting into reading because I do it at night when
my brain needs a break writing.
LKBR: Are there any
magazines/publications that as a writer you subscribe to? Are these or others
something readers could also benefit from?
KB: I am a member or
Mystery Writers of America and Sister’s in Crime, their newsletters are very
informative. I also love to read the New
York Times book section weekly and online mystery blogs.
LKBR: Is there anything
you would give up if you thought it would make you an even better writer?
KB: I suppose I would
sacrifice my weekend antiquing and vintage hunting to make the time. Let me
rephrase that… I would cut down.
LKBR: Any new projects
in the works?
KB: Yes, I
am in the process of writing my fourth A By the Sea mystery and I’ve completed
my fourth Hamptons Home and Garden Mystery due out this summer.
LKBR: If you
could ask your readers 3 questions, what would they be?
1. How
much romance do you like in your Cozy Mysteries?
2. Do you
only read specific genres of cozies, i.e. paranormal, culinary, pet-centered,
or do you read them all?
3. Do you
like it when there are recipes or how-to tips at the end of cozies or you could
take them or leave them?
LKBR: Where can
readers go to learn more about you and your books?

MY REVIEW
Each
book I read by author Kathleen Bridge simply gets better and better. MURDER BY
THE SEA is no exception.
When
a mystery book opens with a literary masquerade party in progress, how can you
not get pulled in? It was so fun seeing what famous characters would be
mentioned next.
But
the party for us readers really started with the discovery of the body. From
that moment on, author Bridge had us chasing down clues, suspecting so many
people I lost count, and lead us through some amazing twists and turns, most of
which led to dead ends, until finally all is made clear. By that point, I was
breathless!
MURDER BY THE SEA is perfect summer time,
vacation reading. Heck, it is perfect reading for any time of the year. If you
haven’t read the first two installments of the By the Sea Mysteries, pick them
all up and read them back to back.

GOOD LUCK!

As always, please leave a comment and
I’m so happy to hear there will be anew book in the Hampton Homes and Gardens series. I’ve missed Meg! To answer Kathleen’s questions: (1) I like some romance in my cozies but not a fan of love triangles; (2) I read all most all cozies, even a very few paranormal ones — just not a big fan of paranormal usually; (3) I like recipes and tips in my cozies. cking78503(at)aol(dot)com
