AND THEN THERE WERE NUNS by Kylie Logan
BETWEEN A BOOK AND A HARD PLACE by Denise Swanson

AND THE THERE WERE NUNS
Book 4 in the League of Literary Ladies Mysteries
by Kylie Logan

The national bestselling author of The Legend of Sleepy Harlow returns to South Bass Island, where the League of Literary Ladies has to find out who’s killing off nuns.

B and B owner Bea Cartwright has taken on the responsibility of taking meals to ten visiting nuns, who are on retreat at the Water’s Edge Center for Spirit and Renewal on picturesque South Bass Island on Lake Erie. But the peace of the retreat is shattered when one of the nuns is found at the water’s edge—murdered. And when a second nun is killed, Bea and the other members of the League of Literary Ladies—Chandra, Kate, and Luella—start to wonder about eerie parallels with the Agatha Christie mystery classic, And Then There Were None.

Since Bea has the trust of the sisters, the local chief of police asks her and the other Literary Ladies to interview each of them. Expecting a confession may be asking for a miracle, but Bea hopes she can at least find the killer before another nun gets crossed off the guest list...

MY REVIEW

There is nun-thing readers won’t love about this book!

It was fun being back with Bea and the other members of the League of Literary Ladies. Goodness, they had their hands full this time! Lucky for us readers, author Kylie Logan knows how to handle them.

Without reading the acknowledgments I would still have easily seen that Ms. Logan’s knowledge of nuns was learned firsthand rather than from research. She did a marvelous job in her portrayal of each one.

As is always the case with a book written by this author, AND THEN THERE WERE NUNS had a fantastic plot, written with skill. Every page flowed perfectly into the next, setting a great reading pace to enjoy this excellent mystery.

For anyone in a book club (by choice or not J), you’re going to love not only this book, but the entire series.

Take a look at the back of the book for a sneak peek of, IRISH STEWED, book one in Kylie Logan’s Ethic Eats Mysteries!

BETWEEN A BOOK AND A HARD PLACE
Book 5 in the Devereaux's Dime Store Mysteries
by Denise Swanson

The New York Times bestselling author of Dying for a Cupcake returns with a new mystery filled with lost family, hidden treasure, and long-buried secrets...

Five-and-dime store owner Devereaux “Dev” Sinclair moved to Shadow Bend for her family. But when her long-lost mother shows up in town, she realizes too much kin can be killer...

Shadow Bend’s library closed years ago because of budgetary problems, so when a wealthy benefactor offers to reopen it, everyone, including Dev, is thrilled. But Dev’s excitement wanes when she realizes the mysterious donor is actually her runaway mother Yvette’s latest husband, Jett Benedict.

Dev suspects that Yvette and Jett’s intentions aren’t as noble as they appear, but before she can discover what they’re really up to, Jett turns up dead—and all clues point to Yvette as the prime suspect.

Even though Dev has no loyalty to Yvette, she’s in a bind. Setting the record straight could prove her mother is a killer. But doing nothing might get her mother booked for a crime she didn’t commit...

MY REVIEW

Another great installment to the Devereaux’s Dime Store Mystery series!

Author Denise Swanson once again pens a mystery that will delight her fans. She knows exactly they want, and she delivers.

My favorite part of this series is time spent with Dev in her store. I really enjoy reading about the gift baskets she puts together.

Skilled writing, and a love of her craft are very apparent in Ms. Swanson’s books. BETWEEN A BOOK AND A HARD PLACE was a wonderfully paced story with just the right amount of mystery and suspense to keep the reader quickly turning the pages from the beginning, straight through to the exciting reveal.

Rather you’re new to this series, or a returning fan, BETWEEN A BOOK AND A HARD PLACE will make the mystery reader in you extremely happy.

At the back of the book you’ll find a sneak peek of Denise Swanson’s newest Scumble River Mystery, MURDER OF A CRANKY CATNAPPER!

Both great titles release March 1.

MY REVIEW

Author Linda Reilly has fried up another delicious treat!

When I read the first book in this series, FILLET OF MURDER, I was in deep fried mystery heaven. Guess what? You can go back again…I sure did with, OUT OF THE DYING PAN!

It was so delightful to be back in Wrensdale in the Berkshires. I simply adore the characters and the settings author Reilly has created with this series. I’d spend a lot of time in a place like Fry Me A Sliver. I know this because just reading about it made my stomach growl. J

Besides featuring fantastic sounding food, OUT OF THE DYING PAN was a superbly written mystery that flowed at a perfect pace. I loved every word from the first page on. Through the entire investigation I kept trying to guess the killer. I thought I had it figured out until I read the reveal. Wow…talk about a surprise! Outstanding! You really got me on this one Ms. Reilly.

Fans of the first book are going to love this installment, and those new to the series, you can read it without feeling lost, but since it’s only book two, I suggest you pick up book one, FILLET OF MURDER as well and read them back to back. You won’t regret it!

Make sure to check out the back of the book for some yummy deep fried recipes!

MY REVIEW

This is the best installment of this series so far! You’ll have to put on your best thinking kapp to solve this one!

Laura Bradford is a phenomenal author. A magnificent storyteller. And while I adore all series written by her (She also writes as Elizabeth Lynn Casey), the Amish mystery series to me, is the biggest and brightest gem in her crown of work.

Truth be told, A CHURN FOR THE WORSE is THE best mystery I have read, not only this year, but in the last couple of years. The Amish Mystery series is in my top three favorite series. Each time I read a new book in this series, I feel like I am home again.

To say the characters in this series are wonderful would be a vast understatement. From the English (what the Amish call us), Claire, her Aunt Diane, and Jakob Fisher (once Amish), to the Amish characters Benjamin Miller, and Ester and Eli Fisher, just to name a few, Ms. Bradford has created characters, no, people with amazing depth and layers. Each book in this series brings out more about these lovely folks. Watching them develop and grow has been one of the best parts of reading this series.

As for the mystery, author Bradford has outdone herself! Bringing the victim into the story fairly early, the mystery surrounding the death, and investigation for the truth, spread throughout the entire story. There is also a secondary mystery happening in this book, ensuring every page will be filled with exciting reading. So, with my thoughts churning away, I didn’t put this book down until it was done. Wow! Ms. Bradford once again blew me away with her clever reveal. I never saw it coming.

If you’re looking for a great read, go no further than A CHURN FOR THE WORSE.

Make sure to check out the back of the book for a sneak peek of book one in Laura Bradford’s new Emergency Dessert Squad mysteries series, ÉCLAIR AND PRESENT DANGER!

MURDER SHE WROTE
KILLER IN THE KITCHEN
Book 43 in the Murder She Wrote Mysteries
by Jessica Fletcher & Donald Bain

In the latest mystery in the USA Today bestselling series, there’s a battle brewing between two eateries, and Jessica Fletcher will have to get cooking to find a killer...

A BEEF WITH LEBOEUF

Jessica loves the Fin & Claw restaurant, owned by young Cabot Cove couple Brad and Marcie. The eatery is the couple’s dream come true, but it’s quickly turning into a nightmare.

Famed chef Gérard Leboeuf has decided to open his brand of bistro right next to theirs. Given the competition, the charming chef’s manner soon turns sour. Tensions rise hot and fast until they boil over, leading to a nasty confrontation between Leboeuf and Brad.

So when one chef is found with a knife planted in his chest, the other becomes the prime suspect. But there’s a long list of those who had a motive to kill in this kitchen war, and it’s up to Jessica to uncover who really added murder to the menu.

MY REVIEW

NOTE: This review is from the hardcover edition I reviewed in 2015. I left the review as written then. I have since read other Murder, She Wrote books.

I’ve never read a Murder, She Wrote book and doubt I would have if I hadn’t been sent this one to review. My reason for not reading one? When I was a little girl I saw a movie called Bedknobs & Broomsticks with Angela Lansbury and she scared me to pieces! LOL So, I never watched the Murder, She Wrote TV show and never read the books. That being said, my apologies to Angela Lansbury, I’m sure she’s is a wonderful woman, and to Donald Bain, it was nothing personal to him.

On to my review.

I really liked this book!

KILLER IN THE KITCHEN is #43 in the series, and if the first 42 were anywhere as enjoyable, I have indeed been missing out.

The story was so well written. While reading, I was taken back to the times I “listened” to my parents watch Murder, She Wrote. Author Donald Bain does an incredible job of keeping the voice of the show alive.

The mystery was very compelling. I found myself turning page after page needing to see what would happen next. The next thing I knew, I was at the end of the book and telling myself, this may have been my first Murder, She Wrote, but it won’t be my last.
