But she is shocked when the winner, Deidre Ryan, takes the stage only to plummet to her death as a platform suddenly gives way. After the police discover foul play, Tobi's Grandpa Stu wastes no time in nominating suspects. But was Deidre the intended victim-or was someone else meant to take the fatal fall? Now it's a race to catch a killer in the spotlight, before another nominee gets the booby prize and Tobi gets trapped in a no-win situation.

MY REVIEW

What a joy to get to read another Tobi Tobias Mystery!

Just when you think author Laura Bradford can’t possibly outdo herself, she does! AND DEATH GOES TO… is the best book in this series so far. All outside distraction was a mere whisper in the background as I lost myself in this wonderful tale.

The more I read of these characters, the harder it is to leave them and their world once the story is over. Protagonist Tobi is brilliant. I could spend time talking with her all day. Grandpa Stu is my guy. I simply adore him. I got to see a different side of him in this book, and just wanted to give him a hug.

Ms. Bradford always manages to bring so many levels to her stories. Laugh out loud moments, the tenderness of romance, and of course, the drama of murder. And speaking of murder…Wow! From the unique way the victim was killed (haven’t seen it in a cozy before), through the following investigation, AND DEATH GOES TO… was nonstop twists and turns, with new suspects popping up all over! I honestly had to remind myself to keep breathing.

If you’re a fan of the Tobi Tobias mysteries, or a fan of Laura Bradford’s, you can’t miss, AND DEATH GOES TO… And, if you haven’t read anything by this author, it’s time you do!

SEEDS OF REVENGE
Book 3 in the Greenhouse Mysteries
by Wendy Tyson

t’s time to cuddle up with a holiday whodunit. Smell the crisp pines and baking cranberries as you sip your hot apple cider. It may be the season, but the mood in Winsome is anything but jolly.
Megan Sawyer is determined to farm year-round. So much so that she braves a December snowstorm to pitch her fresh greenhouse greens to Philadelphia chefs.
And then she sees a stranger stranded on the side of the road.
But this woman is no stranger to Winsome. It’s Becca Fox. A love chemist (you read that right). She’s headed to her aunt’s house to sell her love potions at holiday events.
Or so Becca thinks.
Her sneaky aunt only invited Becca home to reunite her with her estranged father. It sounds noble and kind-hearted, until the man ends up dead.
Megan soon finds herself in the middle. She realizes Becca’s not the only one getting iced over. Megan’s own aunt, the famous mystery author, is dragged into the drama. Her novels implicate her and she’s in trouble.
Now it’s personal. Our Megan must follow a cryptic trail of literary clues, all while sifting through the victim’s sordid past. She gets closer to the truth as the murderer gets closer to her.
How’s that for a ho ho ho? Don’t let your fresh apple crisp burn in the oven because you’re lost in this holiday homicide.
MY REVIEW

When I read the first book in the Greenhouse Mysteries, A MUDDIED MURDER, I was amazed at how quickly I was hooked. And, again with the second installment, BITER HARVEST. Author Wendy Tyson pulled me in with her easy writing style. You know the kind? Every word she writes belongs in the story. She doesn’t “over” describe things or add a bunch of words just to stretch out her word count. Her stories flow across the pages inviting you to drift with them.

With that said, while I loved the plot of SEEDS OF REVENGE, author Tyson went edgier with this book. Her same wonderful writing is there. Her characters are still just as enjoyable, and I still have a wicked crush on the devilish Denver. But parts of this book didn’t read “cozy” to me. There is also the use of profanity which I think has no place in a cozy mystery. D*mn and h*ll have been showing up more and more in this genre, and while they make me cringe, I manage to overlook them (mostly). But the use of b***h and b*****d just don’t belong. This was a good, strong story, and didn’t need the addition of profanity to make it better. Now, if this doesn’t bother you, I highly recommend you read this book. You will be in for a good read.

  1. Thanks, Lisa. I don’t understand why some authors feel the need to bring profanity into cozy mysteries. It is not necessary (and not wanted). Happy Wednesday, to you.
