The last thing Lady Katherine wants is to take the matchmaking job for Mrs. Burwick, whose daughter, Prudence, clearly does not want to be matched… until she realizes it provides her the perfect cover to investigate the string of robberies that have been taking place in the holiday town of Bath.

Katherine, her loyal maid, Harriet, and her tenacious Pug, Emma, soon find themselves knee-deep in troubled waters as they try to piece together the baffling clues to reveal the truth. To further complicate matters, Katherine’s investigation is impeded by the incompetent detective hired by the Marquess of Bath to flush out the burglar.

Now Katherine must juggle advising Prudence on how “not” to land a duke while she dives into the investigation in the hopes of narrowing down the suspects without making waves amongst the aristocracy, some of whom are her primary suspects.

When the burglary attempts turn violent, Katherine must take drastic measures to ensure her detective career isn’t all washed up before it even gets started.

With a Hollywood film crew in town to shoot a remake of the horror classic The Perishing, the residents of Wildwood Cove are all abuzz. Even Marley McKinney, owner of The Flip Side Pancake House, can overlook the fact that the lead actress, Alyssa Jayde, happens to be an old flame of her boyfriend. After all, the crew loves Marley's cropes-so much so that Christine, the head makeup artist, invites her onset for a behind-the-scenes tour. But when Marley arrives, the special-effects trailer is on fire . . . with Christine inside. The cops quickly rule Christine's death a murder, and Alyssa a suspect. Marley's boyfriend insists that the actress is innocent, but when Marley sticks her nose into the complicated lives of The Perishing's cast and crew, she discovers more questions than answers. It seems that everyone has a hidden agenda-and a plausible motive. And as the horror spills over from the silver screen, Marley gets a funny feeling that she may be the killer's next victim.

The Mystery Mastermind Group who live and write at the Gull Island Writer's Retreat are tasked with proving that the husband of a young mother with four adopted children and another on the way, was murdered and had not committed suicide as the insurance company is claiming. Jack, Jill, and the other writers know their task will be difficult since all the evidence found at the scene leads to a verdict they simply cannot accept.
