Family Fortune Mysteries.
Enter using the Rafflecopter form after
this interview for your chance to win a copy of
PALL IN THE FAMILY or BE CAREFUL WHAT YOU WITCH FOR.
There will be two winners, one per book.
LKBR: Hi
Dawn. It’s great to have you here today.
DE: I’m
happy to be here!
LKBR: You
write the Family Fortune Mystery series. How did you come up with the idea?
DE: I
love stories with small towns, quirky characters, and crazy family dynamics. I
thought it would be fun to flip things around and have a town where the
skeptics were in the minority, and where psychics were the norm.
However,
the idea started with the characters. Clyde wandered in and then Rose and
Violet followed. They were all arguing about the family business. As I got to
know them better, I was able to fill in the details.
LKBR: Your
first in the series PALL IN THE FAMILY was
a big hit with readers. Did you do anything special to celebrate?
DE: My
writing group is great about celebrating every success, large or small, so we
had champagne at one of our meetings. Beaverdale Books, a local independent
bookstore hosted a book signing and lots of friends and family attended – it
felt more like a party.
LKBR: The
second book, BE CAREFUL WHAT YOUR WITCH
FOR comes out today. Congratulations! Care to share anything about if for
those waiting for it to come in the mail? LOL Something that isn’t in the blurb
on the back?
DE:
Let’s see…there are several new, interesting characters. One of them reveals
one of Clyde’s family secrets – one she didn’t even know existed.
LKBR: Have
you started writing the third book in the series? If so, any little hints on
what we can look forward to?
DE: The
third book is already written and off to my wonderful editor at Berkley. It’s
called Fright to the Death and takes
place at a haunted castle, in a snowstorm, with knitters.
LKBR: Are you
working on any ideas for a new series or stand-alone title?
DE: I
have a couple of back-burner stand-alone ideas. One is a historical fiction
that I work on here and there. My daughter really wants me to write a YA that
“doesn’t have a murder.” But so far, no great ideas on that front. It seems
there’s always a dead body in my stories.
LKBR: What
are three things you would like your reader to know about you?
DE: 1.
I love to hear from readers. I think it’s my favorite thing.
2. Sometimes
I think my dog is psychic.
3. If I
wasn’t writing books, I would probably be writing knitting patterns.
LKBR: Please
share with us some ways readers can learn more about you and your books.
