Another off topic day.
Today I want to talk about trying to find new tv shows.

I went from having just "regular" tv channels, to having a smart tv where you can watch movies, tv, even apps! I can watch YouTube on my tv!
However, with all of these choices, it's harder than you think to find a show you can enjoy.

One day I heard about a new Nancy Drew on the CW. I knew it would be geared to older teens and early twenties. The opening scene was Nancy and Ned having . . . ummm . . . "relations".

I was shocked, grossed out, angry.
Honestly, it made me feel a little dirty.

Okay, I'm 54 years old. I never thought I was a prude. But now, I'm pretty sure I am. And I'm okay with that.

Frankly, I'm tired of every tv show or movie having sex scenes. I mean, is that really all humans want to see?

And language! Have you ever heard of such language on tv? The "F" bomb is dropped so much, it's a wonder it hasn't left craters in earth.

They give you little rating at the top of the scene these days. But honestly, they don't always match up to what you find acceptable.

I have no children around. It's just my sister and me in this house of ours. Thank goodness for that. I can't imagine watching a program (what us old folks call shows) or a movie with a child around.
I love British comedies. ARE YOU BEING SERVED?, ARE YOU BEING SERVED AGAIN (in some ways, funnier than the first), KEEPING UP APPEARANCES.

I watch a lot of Hallmark. I finally get the Hallmark Movies & Mysteries Channel!

There's also, ME TV, and COZI TV. They show a lot of shows from the 60s and 70s.

What about you my amazing friends?

Do you have a hard time finding shows that fit with your values? Do you miss the good old days when it was safe to watch anything on tv with anyone you wanted?

What are your favorite go to shows and or channels?
I look forward to hearing from you!

  1. My TV is rarely on. If it is, it’s a British show or I’m watching a dvd of my choice. I find most of TV to be garbage, now. I’ll be a prude right along with you, Lisa!

  2. Don't fret cause I'm right there with you on the extreme violence, foul language and sex on TV on what seems to be almost every channel during all periods of the day. How can they give the old cartoons such awful ratings saying not fit of children or marking them for extreme violence or having to put a disclaimer on them about "do not try this" and then turn around and show this stuff????

And Christmas shows aren't exempt either. We love the Christmas Carol movies and enjoy watching just about any version we can find of it - old and new. So we got excited to see that last year there was to be a new version shown on FX (a channel we were not familiar with) and saved the date to watch it. Can you imagine Bob Cratchit's wife prostituting herself to Scrooge?!?!?!? And that was just one of the milder things about it. It was upsetting to say the least.

Mostly we stick to the older shows - Andy Griffith, M.A.S.H. or Monk, channels like the Hallmark channels, TVLand, and National Geographic. Enjoy some of the cooking shows and building or remodeling homes but don't like watching them all the time. As we have gotten older we watch more what we use to call educational shows. :)

  3. I totally agree with you. I prefer the Hallmark Channels and the oldie stations.

  4. I'm with you, Lisa, and I will soon be 64. I don't want language or sex on my TV or in the books I read. I watch older shows. We have a smart TV now that I'm trying to navigate. Peacock is free and I watch things like Monk. I subscribe to Frndly, that includes 3 Hallmachannels, INSP, and UPTV among others. There are on demand shows and movies, and some series from Dove like Sue Thomas FB Eye. Hubby watches the other stuff. One of the reasons, too, that I like cozy mysteries and gripe when they depart from traditional values. I'm so thankful I am not the only one! Thank you for sharing!

  5. I understand completely where you are coming from. Today's tv seems to be all about political views, sexual orientation, and other stuff like that that we are beaten with on the news every day. I watch tv to get away from that kind of stuff. I love Hallmark Mysteries and Movies. So many good cozy mysteries on there. I too also watch a lot of Britbox and Acorn TV. And I find myself rewatching alot of my old shows over again. Doctor Who and Classic Doctor Who and The Office.
