And now a word from Debbie De Louise

The holidays are a busy time. Between shopping, decorating, and socializing, it's hard to find the time to read. That's why short holiday stories are so popular. They can put you in the spirit of the season without taking too much time away from your day. I hope you will consider stuffing your stocking (or your Kindle) with one of my new short mysteries. I’ll be giving one of each away to two lucky winners who comment with questions about me, my books, or stories.

I have seven published books. Four are part of my Cobble Cove cozy mystery series that feature Sneaky the Library cat.

Below are my new holiday short stories that were published on December 2.

Sneaky's Christmas Mystery

Another death has occurred in Cobble Cove near the holidays. This time, it’s the owner of the new pet store in town who was felled by a case of cat food that crushed his skull. Was it an accident, or murder? While the townspeople including the sheriff are divided in their opinions, Sneaky and Kittykai, the library and inn cats, sniff out the truth.

Murder Unwrapped

Richard Bright is a man with a plan. He’s an inventor who he wants to kill his wife with one of his inventions. He hopes to put his plan into effect on Christmas, but his invention isn’t quite perfected. Dealing with his wife isn’t an option, nor her two rambunctious kittens, Harry and Hermione. What sweetens the pot is her large inheritance and a pretty young woman who is now working at his shop. Will Richard’s plan to have his special gift ready in time pan out, or will it fizzle with some of his other unfinished projects?

  2. Thanks for coming Debbie. Does your series need to be read in order or are they standalone? The Christmas shorts sound fun. schmokercarol(at)gmail(dot)com

    1. Hi, Carol. That's a good question. The series books can be read alone, but I would recommend reading them in order to see the character development and continuing story line. The short stories are standalone, but Sneaky's Christmas Mystery actually takes place after the fourth book of the series.

  3. Congratulations on the recent release of your two new short stories! I do enjoy being able to take a short break in all the hustle and bustle of the holidays for a good holiday story.

I've been traveling to get back home, so I'm running late but I have a few questions. :)

Where do you get your inspiration for your stories? Is Sneaky an off take of one of your cats or a combination of them all? Are your people in your story purely made up or do they have a likeness to people you know? How long does it take on average to write a book? Do you know before starting how many books in a series and the main theme of each book?

Love to read cozies, but can't wait to read "Sea Scope" and read all about Sarah Collins. Sounds like a fabulous book and definitely on my TBR list.

Thank you for stopping by Lisa K's Book Review blog today and answering our questions!

  4. Hi, Kay. Thank you for your interesting questions. I get my inspiration for my stories and books from various sources -- other books, movies, tv shows, real life, past experiences, work, travel, etc. But, mostly, from my imagination. The majority of my characters are made up but some are loosely based on people I know or have known. For instance, Mac in the series was based on an elderly gentleman I worked with in college who ate peanut butter sandwiches for lunch every day.

It takes me about 3 months to write a book, but then I need to edit a few drafts before submission. Some books take longer than others. It took me a few years to submit Sea Scope, but others have only taken four to six months from first draft to published book.

I have no idea how many books I will write in a series, and the themes come to me when I sit down and start a new one. I'm a pantster, so I write as I go with very small outlines. I spend more time on character development than plot because the plot tends to unravel on its own, and the characters seem to lead the story.

I hope this answers all your questions, Kay, and thank you for adding Sea Scope to your TBR. It was one of the favorite books of mine that I wrote, and I've had very nice reviews of it. Have a wonderful holiday, and good luck with the giveaway.

Do you do a lot of research for your books? If so, for you, what is the best way to store this data? quilting lady 2 at comcast dot net

    1. Hi, Lori. Thanks for your nice words about my book. The amount of research I do depends on the book. I use Word files to store research notes, character descriptions, and plotting points.
