BOOK TOUR

I'm excited today to be a stop on the book tour for
BREWED AWAKENING
Book 18 in the Coffeehouse Mysteries
by Cleo Coyle

Spotlight On

From Cleo Coyle, the New York Times bestselling author of Shot in the Dark and Dead Cold Brew, comes a delicious new entry in the "fun and gripping" (The Huffington Post) Coffeehouse Mysteries.

When coffeehouse manager Clare Cosi awakens on a bench in Washington Square Park, she has no idea she's been missing for days, or that her friends and family have been frantic with worry. Now that she's back, everyone is overjoyed, including a handsome NYPD detective who claims to be her fiancΓ©. But to Mike Quinn's crushing distress, Clare doesn't remember him, or much of anything about the last fifteen years of her life.

Clare's missing memory is tied to a crime she witnessed. An acquaintance of Clare's elegant employer--and fellow member of an exclusive Gotham circle known as "The Ladies Who Brunch"--invited Clare to her posh hotel to sample gourmet wedding cakes. After their indulgent tasting, they headed to the parking garage, where a camera captured a masked figure with a gun confronting the hotel heiress with Clare looking on. Did the kidnapper take Clare, too? The camera went dark, just like Clare's memory. Soon authorities grow suspicious. Is Clare really a victim? Or merely acting like one? Evidence is mounting that she set the woman up.

To clear her name, Clare must find a way to reclaim her memories and rescue the heiress before this high-stakes crime ends in tragedy. Otherwise, instead of walking down the aisle, Clare may find herself perp-walking to prison as an accomplice to kidnapping and murder.

A WORD FROM CLEO

Cleo Coyle Reveals her Inspiration for Brewed Awakening

+ Recipe and Giveaway

My husband and I have been writing our Coffeehouse Mysteries for more than fifteen years. As a married couple we’ve had plenty of ups and down, and we always try to put the pain, joy, and absurd humor of our daily lives into our novels. It’s one reason why readers say they’ve formed deep connections with our characters.

If you’re new to our Coffeehouse series, I’m happy to introduce you to our amateur sleuth. Clare Cosi is a single mom in her forties who manages the Village Blend, a charming, century-old coffeehouse in New York’s historic Greenwich Village. Clare is often in a position to know more than the police about the quirky and creative community she serves. When crime happens, and the professionals hit dead ends, Clare goes to work.

For Clare’s latest case, Marc and I began our story development with a talk over (you guessed it) coffee. After everything we’ve gone through as a couple, we wondered: What if our years together were suddenly wiped from our memories? Would we be drawn to each other again? If so, how exactly does “like” deepen into something more? When does love happen?

With Clare on a path to be married to her longtime boyfriend, NYPD Detective Mike Quinn, we decided to explore those questions in Brewed Awakening, and we agreed that Clare would suffer from a traumatic memory loss. Her damaged memory is tied to a crime she witnesses, one that lands her in a great deal of hot water. To get herself out, and reclaim the love of her life, Clare must find a way to recover what she’s lost. But will she? Or is her life, as she once knew it, gone forever?

If you’re a newcomer to our Coffeehouse world, don’t hesitate to pick up Brewed Awakening. Every Coffeehouse Mystery can be read as a stand-alone story. And, if you like one, you’ll have seventeen more to enjoy. But don’t miss our latest. We hope you’ll find this mystery about memory to be unforgettable.

“Amid the delightfully twisty mystery, Coyle poses an intriguing question: if you lost all memory of your beloved, would you fall for him all over again?”

Cleo Coyle’s
Five Minute Nutella Fudge

Chocolate and hazelnut are among the most popular flavors in American coffeehouses, which is why we added this blissful fudge to the menu of our beloved Village Blend. Because the light note of hazelnut comes from Nutella instead of chopped nuts, the texture stays smooth, creamy, and dreamy. May you eat (and read) with joy!

Makes one 8x8 pan of fudge
5 minutes to prepare + 3 hours to chill

Ingredients:
1 (14 ounce) can of sweetened condensed milk
2 tablespoons unsalted butter, cut into pieces
1 (12 ounce) package good quality semisweet chocolate chips
1/4 teaspoon kosher salt
1-1/2 teaspoons pure vanilla extract
1/2 cup Nutella (or your favorite) chocolate-hazelnut spread (room temperature)

Step 1 – Crisscross the bottom of an 8 x 8 square pan with two sheets of parchment paper, allowing the paper to extend over the sides, like handles. You’ll use these paper handles to lift the finished block of fudge from the pan.

Step 2 – Place the milk, pieces of butter, and chocolate chips into a microwave safe bowl. Heat in 30 second increments, stirring between sessions, until the mixture is melted and smooth. Be patient with this process, taking care not to burn the chocolate. Once the mixture is melted, add the salt, vanilla, and Nutella. Stir from the bottom, lifting and folding to blend everything well. Pour the mixture into your lined pan, and use a rubber spatula to level the top.

Step 3 – Chill the pan until the block of fudge is firm. This will take about 3 hours. Remove, cut into small squares, and serve in mini cupcake liners. Match the design of the paper liners to reflect whatever you’re celebrating, and this recipe will work for almost any holiday or party that comes along. Store fudge inside an airtight container and keep in your refrigerator.
