BOOK TOUR

I'm happy to be a stop on the blog tour for
THE SUBJECT OF MALICE
Book 4 in the Lila MacLean Academic Mysteries
by Cynthia Kuhn

The organizers have rustled up plenty of surprises for the literary conference at Tattered Star Ranch. But the murder of an influential scholar wasn't on the program--someone has clearly taken the theme of Malice in the Mountains to heart. This shocking crime is only the beginning: Other dangers and deceptions are soon revealed.
English professor Lila Maclean has a full agenda: She must convince a press to publish her book (possibly), ace her panel presentations (hopefully), and deal with her nemesis (regrettably).
However, when Detective Lex Archer requests Lila's academic expertise, she agrees to consult on the case. While her contributions earn high marks from her partner, it could be too late; the killer is already taking aim at the next subject.
As Lila races to keep her colleagues alive, publish or perish takes on new meaning.

A Chat with Cynthia Kuhn

LKBR:  Thank you for being here today, Cynthia!

Cynthia: Delighted to be here—thanks for having me.

LKBR: Please tell us a bit about you, and your book/series.

Cynthia: The Lila Maclean Academic Mysteries feature an English professor-turned-amateur-sleuth. (I am also an English professor, but she teaches at a small private school and I teach at a large state school.)

LKBR: Any hints or spoilers you can give us about your next book?

Cynthia: The Subject of Malice takes place at a very unusual academic conference...suffice it to say that there are costumes involved.

LKBR: Have you ever written a scene that you loved but had to remove it for the sake of the story?

Cynthia: Many times! It’s sad, but editing has to be ruthless. Those scenes are like the parts of movies that end up on the cutting room floor—part of the process.

LKBR: Have you ever gotten reader’s block? Just find it hard to get into reading because you are so into your writing?

Cynthia: What an interesting question! When I’m deep in the writing zone, it can be hard to do anything else, that’s true. But I’m a teacher, so there’s always something to be read. The show must go on...

LKBR: Are there any magazines/publications that as a writer you subscribe to? Are these or others something readers could also benefit from?

Cynthia: I read the publications that come from mystery organizations I belong to: Sisters in Crime, Mystery Writers of America, and International Thriller Writers. I also subscribe to Mystery Scene and Vanity Fair. Recommend them all!

LKBR: Any new projects in the works?

Cynthia: Right now, I’m drafting book five in the Lila series.

LKBR: Where can readers go to learn more about you and your books?

Cynthia: Here are some links...

LKBR: Thank you so much for letting us get to know you better!

Cynthia: It’s been lovely to chat with you—thanks for letting me visit!
