THE CALAMITY CAFÉ
Book 1 in the Down South Café Mysteries
by Gayle Leeson

First in a new cozy mystery series featuring Southern cooking that is to die for.

Aspiring chef and small-town Virginia native Amy Flowers is ready to open her own café offering old-fashioned Southern food. But her dream may go up in smoke when someone kills the competition...

Tired of waiting tables at Lou’s Joint, Amy Flowers doesn’t just quit—she offers to buy the place from her bully of a boss, so she can finally open the café of her dreams. Amy can't wait to serve the kind of Southern, down-home treats and dishes that her grandmother always loved to the kooky cast of regulars at the restaurant. She knows her comfort food will be the talk of the sweet, small town of Winter Garden, Virginia.

At first Lou Lou refuses to sell, but when she seems ready to make a deal, she tells Amy to come see her.  Showing up at the eatery ready to negotiate, Amy is shocked to find her former employer murdered. As the prime suspect, Amy will have to clear her name by serving up the real killer—and with Lou Lou’s stack of enemies, that’s a tall order.

Includes delicious Southern recipes!

MY REVIEW

Author Gayle Leeson had me at page one!

I don’t know about others, but for me, ever so often a book comes along, and with the very first sentence I know I’m in for a wonderful read. THE CLAMITY CAFÉ is such a book. I was enjoying it so much, I was a little annoyed if my reading was interrupted.

I completely connected with lead character, Amy Flowers. I immediately felt like she was a friend.  There are scene with her and several older citizens from town, where I smiled the entire time. All of the characters have such fun personalities! Each on is so unique. I’m ready to pack my bags, and move to Winter Garden, Virginia, and spend my days with these folks!

Brilliantly penned by author Leeson, THE CLAMITY CAFÉ is a fast paced story that will leave readers anticipating every new page. I know I did! From the discovery of the murder victim, to the surprising reveal, this is a solid mystery, and everything I look for in a cozy!

I’m looking forward to reading this series for many years to come!

Make sure to check out the back of the book for some great down home recipes, and an excerpt from THE QUICK AND THE THREAD, the first book in Amanda Lee’s (Gayle Leeson) Embroidery mysteries!

BOOKS OF A FEATHER
Book 11 in the Bibliophile Mysteries
by Kate Carlisle

Hardcover

From the New York Times bestselling author of Ripped from the Pages, San Francisco book-restoration expert Brooklyn Wainwright’s latest project is for the birds, but it may have her running for her life. . . .

Brooklyn’s friend Ian runs the Covington Library, which is hosting an exhibit featuring John James Audubon’s massive masterpiece, Birds of America, currently on loan from an Arab sheik. During the gala celebrating the book, she is approached by Jared Mulrooney, the president of the National Birdwatchers Society, who urgently needs Brooklyn's skilled hands to repair a less high-profile book of Audubon drawings that’s fallen victim to spilled wine.

At the same party, Brooklyn is flying high after she’s asked to refurbish and appraise a rare copy ofPoor Richard’s Almanac. But everything runs afoul later that evening when Mulrooney’s body is discovered in the library. Rumors fly about a motive for murder. Perhaps Mulrooney wanted to sink his claws into the pricey Audubon book, but Brooklyn believes the man died fighting off a daring thief.

Soon more troubles ruffle Brooklyn’s feathers. Her parents pop in for a visit with an unsavory friend in tow, and there’s a strange man on her tail. With danger beginning to circle Brooklyn’s every move, it’s clear she must find answers before things really go south . . .

MY REVIEW

Author Maggie Sefton has knitted another crafty mystery!

I had a great time being back in Fort Collins, Colorado hanging out at Lambspun. Well, you know, that murderer running around was a bit of a drag. ;-)

KNIT TO BE TIED is a perfect addition to the Knitting Mystery series. Ms. Sefton has written a cast of characters that stay with you log after the story is done. It’s been wonderful to watch these characters grow over the course of these fourteen books.

A tight, yet delicately woven mystery, KNIT TO BE TIED has everything a cozy mystery should have, and more. And enticing mystery or two, lots of twists, turns, and bumps, all equal an amazing tale that will keep you reading well past your bedtime.

I’m already looking forward to the next installment!

Make sure to check out the back of book for a knitting pattern, recipe, and an excerpt from the very first Knitting Mystery, KNIT ONE, KILL TWO!
