I'm joining Berkley Mystery today
in celebrating the release of
FURBIDDEN FATALITY
Book 1 in the Catskills Pet Rescue Mysteries
by Deborah Blake

A lottery winner uses her good fortune to save a local pet sanctuary, but when a body is discovered on the property, she just might be in the doghouse in this first book in a new, charming cozy mystery series from author Deborah Blake.

Kari Stuart's life is going nowhere—until she unexpectedly wins the lottery. The twenty-nine-year-old instant multimillionaire is still mulling plans for her winnings when rescuing a bossy black kitten leads her to a semi-abandoned animal shelter. They need the cash—Kari needs a purpose.

But the dilapidated rescue is literally going to the dogs with a pending lawsuit, hard to adopt animals, and too much unwanted attention from the town's dog warden. When the warden turns up dead outside the shelter's dog kennels, Kari finds herself up a creek without a pooper-scooper.

With the help of some dedicated volunteers, a cute vet, and a kitten who mysteriously shows up just when she needs it, Kari must prove her innocence all while trying to save a dog on death row. Now she just needs to hope that her string of unexpected luck isn't about to run out.

As someone who dreams of winning the lottery (my chances would be better if I actually bought tickets), and owning a senior dog rescue, when I read the blurb for, FURBIDDEN FATALITY, I knew I just had to read it.

This first in author Deborah Blake’s, Catskills Pet Rescue Mysteries, is a good start to what I think could be a winning cozy series. I enjoyed getting to know Kari, and the other characters. I will say, there are two that I’m not very fond of, but I reserve judgement of them until the next book. One of my favorite parts of a new series is watching as the characters grow through each new story.

FURBIDDEN FATALITY was very well written. I was captivated with this book cover to cover. The mystery element was tight and strong, woven in just the right manor that had me second, and third guessing myself. The interaction between the characters flowed well. During a few conversations I actually felt more like I was there with them, listening in, instead of merely reading the printed word. And of course, I’m a sucker for animals.

I’m looking for to the next installment of this series. If book two is as good as, FURBIDDEN FATALITY, it’s going to be a go to series for years to come.

About Deborah Blake

I am the author of eleven books on modern witchcraft from Llewellyn Worldwide, as well as the Everyday Witch Tarot Deck and Everyday Witch Oracle Deck. I have also written many paranormal romance and urban fantasy novels, as well as a few contemporary romances.

I live in beautiful upstate New York in a hundred and thirty year old farmhouse with a bunch of cats. I also manage an artists' cooperative shop, make jewelry and do a few other esoteric things on the side.

When I am not writing, I love to read (Jennifer Crusie, Katie Fforde, Tamora Pierce and Susan Wiggs are among my favorite fiction writers, and I read a lot of non-fiction about Witchcraft, spirituality, gardening and cooking). I also have a blog where I do lots of giveaways and talk about cats, writing, gardening, and witchcraft, not necessarily in that order.

I love to hear from people who read my books.

Had to laugh when you talked about lottery tickets. I don't buy them either. :)
