2020: A Bad Year For Living But
Not For Writing
Although, like most people, I don’t have fond memories of 2020, I’m proud
that I published 3 books during the year of the pandemic: Memory Makers,
No
Gravestone Unturned (Cobble Cove #5), and Pet Posts: The Cat Chats.
Memory
Makers, a medical mystery published by Next Chapter, was
released in July. It’s the story of Lauren Phelps, a woman who volunteers for a
clinical trial of a new memory drug hoping to recall the face of the “shadow”
man who kidnapped her and her sister twenty-five years ago. While Lauren
escaped, her sister was murdered.
No
Gravestone Unturned, a Halloween mystery and the 5th
book of my Cobble Cove cozy series, was published in October. It featured a
murder in a cemetery that was witnessed by Sneaky the Library cat. While
Alicia, Gilly, and the sheriff try to solve it, Sneaky and his gal pal,
Kittykai, as well as a black cat inn guest, also try to lend a paw.
Pet Posts:
The Cat Chats, my first non-fiction pet book, came out in early
December. This book features full-color photos of six of my cats and features
articles and blog posts covering topics of feline health, behavior, and also
includes short stories and quizzes, all told from the cat’s point of view.
My short science fiction stories, “The Felindae Mission” and “Mirror Image”
appeared in the Red Penguin Collection, What
Lies Below.
I had three poems published in anthologies: “Window Cats” in the 2020 Nassau County Voices in Verse; “Poetry Contest” in the 2020 Bard's Annual; and “Advent” in the ‘Tis the Seasons anthology published by Red Penguin Books.
In 2020, I also won two awards - the Cat Writers’Association’s Muse
Medallion for my eBook, Sneaky’s Christmas Mystery and a 5-star silver medal
from Readers
Favorite for my psychological mystery, Sea Scope.
I’m looking forward to 2021 as a year that’s better for everyone and one in
which I hope to continue sharing my writing with readers. I’m thankful for the
support of those who purchase and review my books and stories and for the
friends, family, and fellow authors who share my news, encourage, and inspire
me.
In January, I’ll be starting the monthly First Draft virtual writer’s
club for my library. In February, I’ll be hosting the monthly Fun with
Fiction library book club on Zoom. For
more information on these free online Zoom programs and registration details,
you can read my blog post (link: https://wp.me/p6m4z7-2YK). Also, at
the end of February, I’ll be presenting an online writer’s workshop, “From
Blogs to Books: How To Publish for Pleasure or Profit” for Long Island
University. Details will be provided in my February author newsletter that you
can subscribe to at https://debbiedelouise.com.
Last, but not least, I’m happy to announce that my New Year’s story,
“Toasting 2021,” has been accepted for the upcoming We Made It anthology
of the Red Penguin Collection.
