BOOK TOUR

I'm so happy to be a stop on the blog tour for
SCONED TO DEATH
Book 5 in the Cat Laimer Mysteries
by Lynn Cahoon

Cat Latimer pursues a scone-cold killer who iced a top chef in a local bakery . . .
Cat has a full plate at her Aspen Hills Warm Springs Resort, as a group of aspiring cozy mystery authors arrives for a writers retreat. So when baker Dee Dee Meyer stirs up trouble by filing a false complaint with the health inspector against the B&B—all because she insists Cat's best friend Shauna stole her recipes—Cat marches into the shop to confront her.

But Dee Dee's about to have her own batch of trouble. Greyson Finn—a celebrity chef and, until today, one of Denver's most eligible bachelors—has been found dead in her bakery. Cat's uncle Pete, who happens to be the chief of police, warns her not to engage in any half-baked sleuthing. But as her curiosity rises, Cat's determined to discover who served the chef his just desserts—before the killer takes a powder . . .

A chat with Lynn

LKBR:  Thank you for being here today, Lynn!

Lynn:  Thanks for inviting me.  I love visiting with you and your readers.

LKBR: Please tell us a bit about you, and your book/series.

Lynn:  I’m a cozy mystery author of three different series (TOURIST TRAP, FARM TO FORK) including the CAT LATIMER series – SCONED TO DEATH is book 5 in this Colorado set series.  I’m a country girl (rural Idaho) so I love writing the small town cozies. Add in a pet or two, like Angelica or Snow, and I’m at home.  Currently I live with my husband and two Keeshond puppies, Dexter and Quinn, (and a cat –Thor) in a river town near St. Louis.

LKBR: Any hints or spoilers you can give us about your next book?

Lynn:  SCONED TO DEATH is Cat at her finest. She gets angry when her friend is put in a bad situation and she’s trying to fix things. Especially since it could affect the future of the writing retreat. So she gets herself in a bad spot. But then, doesn’t she always?

LKBR: Have you ever written a scene that you loved but had to remove it for the sake of the story?

Lynn:  Not really. I write very organically so I don’t overwrite the book. I have had to change a scene because it was going down the wrong road, but I don’t keep the original scene. And it’s usually a tweak, not a total delete.

LKBR: Have you ever gotten reader’s block? Just find it hard to get into reading because you are so into your writing?

Lynn:  I get readers block because I don’t have time. Which makes me grumpy. So I read a bit before bed. And I listen to audio books whenever I’m alone in the car. As long as no one calls me.

LKBR: Are there any magazines/publications that as a writer you subscribe to? Are these or others something readers could also benefit from?

Lynn: Not really. I don’t read magazines. I get my news from the internet. Far from the time when I started college and ordered News Weekly (or something like that) so I would know what was going on in the world. But of course, I didn’t read it.

LKBR: Is there anything you would give up if you thought it would make you an even better writer?

Lynn:  Sleep?  Actually, I couldn’t give that up. I’d love to give up my second job, but we’re on a debt reduction plan right now so I’m putting everything I can on bills so we can be debt free in three years.  Crazy plan, but I think we can do it.

LKBR: Any new projects in the works?

Lynn:  You realize who you’re talking to, right? LOL I always have an iron in the fire. I have just announced a new series that is light paranormal, Idaho set cozy. So excited about this project.  And I’m starting Tourist Trap #11 Amy’s bachelorette party in Vegas. J  Should be fun.

LKBR: If you could ask your readers 3 questions, what would they be?

Lynn:  What makes you try a new to you author?  How many books in a series are too many? What do you want to know about your favorite author?

LKBR: Where can readers go to learn more about you and your books?

MY REVIEW

In SCONDED TO DEATH, author Lynn Cahoon brings back our favorite inn proprietress, Cat Latimer, who this time is hosting a group of aspiring cozy mystery authors to her writer’s retreat. Seriously? Does it get any better for a cozy mystery reader than that?! Perfection! And I have no doubt Ms. Cahoon had to have taken some real life cues on this one.

As with the first four installments of the Cat Latimer Mysteries, SCONED TO DEATH is a superbly written book. Author Cahoon has a true talent for detail, making readers feel like a part of her stories. I know I always do. When I was finished, I felt like I had lived the experience of the story rather than having read it.

I was truly stumped with this mystery. I just couldn’t settle on whodunit, never mind why they dunit. Even as I kept warning Cat (Yes. I talk to the characters.), to stay out of the investigation, I couldn’t wait for her to follow each new lead because I was hoping for answers as much as she was. And then I was floored with the reveal. I just didn’t see it coming.

All I can say is, Ms. Cahoon, keep the Cat Latimer mysteries coming! If they’re half as good as SCONED TO DEATH, they’ll be fabulous!

  1. Thank you for being part of the book tour for "SCONED TO DEATH" by Lynn Cahoon. I can't wait for the opportunity to read this wonderful book. Knowing the author, I know it's a great one and definitely on my TBR list.

Enjoyed the interview. Always love learning tidbits about the authors I enjoy reading. Especially found it interesting that Lynn lived around the St. Louis area. Our best friends do too. In fact, we just got back from Columbia, IL to visit them. Also admire her for working to get financially independent. We did it too. Extremely hard but well worth it. Hubby always says set a goal and work towards it. Then set another. :)
