It's
Cozy Food Friday!

That means it's time to share a recipe from
another great cozy mystery!
This week it's
TANDEM DEMISE
Book 6 in the Cookies & Chance Mysteries
by Duffy Brown

Smugglers on the hunt, a police chief on the run, lost loot and a dead wedding planner have the Mackinac Island regulars riding in circles

After solving two murders, bike shop owner Evie Bloomfield thought life on Mackinac Island would settle into boredom until she finds out Nate Sutter, island police chief and once-upon-a-time under cover cop is on the run. Some badass guys from Nate’s Detroit days think he stole money from them in a champagne smuggling operation and now they’re headed to the island to get their loot. Evie is determined to help Nate because he’s a good cop, Nate is determined to keep interfering Evie and island locals out of harms way, and the crooks are determined to get their money.
To add to the island’s problems there’s a dead guy on the dock and the new wedding planner is more interested in playing bedroom bingo than ordering bridal bouquets.
With the help of Fiona, Evie’s BFF and local newspaper editor, Evie is determined to prove Nate innocent, figure out how champagne smuggling, bodies on the dock and a bad wedding planner are tied together and not wind up taking a long walk off a short pier herself.

Author Duffy Brown, in the short time she’s been a writer, has truly earned the title, author. All you need to do is read one of her books to see what I mean. Her whodunits are a treat to read. My sister and I both are always thrilled when she releases a new book.

This third installment of the Cycle Path mysteries is the best so far. Intriguing, funny, and a wonderfully plotted mystery, TANDEM DEMISE has it all. There are more twists and turns than you’ll find on even the most winding of bike paths. As the story built to the climax, I was both excited to read who the killer was, and bummed that the book was almost over.

Duffy Brown fans, you can’t go wrong with TANDEM DEMISE. New to this author and/or series? Strap on your helmets, you’re in for a wonderfully bumpy ride!

Irma’s Drop Dead Decadent Rum Fudge

From her fudge shop…The Good Stuff…on Mackinac Island
The perfect fudge for that Christmas giveaway and you can have the leftovers with a cup of hot chocolate and sit in front of the fire.

Ingredients
1 pound quality semisweet chocolate chopped fine (please do not use chocolate chips for this one)
1 (14 oz.) can sweetened condensed milk
4 Tablespoons Dark Rum
pinch of kosher salt
1 tsp. vanilla

Directions:

Line 8 inch square pan with wax paper or parchment paper. You want it to hang over the edge of the pan so you can lift it out.  Lightly grease (butter or baking spray) the 2 sides of the pan that the sling is not touching.  This will make it easy for you to remove the fudge later.
In double boiler first put in the chocolate, then dump in the condensed milk, and then the rum,  vanilla and salt.
Stir over medium low heat. Do not let the water below the pot boil; you don’t need to let the water get that hot as you are looking for a slow melting. You don’t want to burn the chocolate
Dump in prepared pan and smooth it out. Let the fudge sit out overnight or several hours. Lift out the whole “sling” and then peel off the wax paper and cut it into small squares. It’s rich, so cut small squares.

Irma says: I won the Gold Ribbon at the Mackinac Island Fudge Festival with this recipe. My secret…This fudge gets better with age. It’s best the second day and even the third if it stays around that long.

  2. I can relate to that beginning. Once, while walking near the beach strip, we saw a man passed out in an odd position and thought he might have been deceased. After paramedics were called, it was established he was severely drunk. :-/
Happy weekend! I added you to the linky.

  5. I'll forward this to Bill. He LOVES fudge.
One of these days we'll get to Mackinac Island. I went there when I was a kid. That would be a great time to read Duffy's book.

  6. Thank you for your review on "TANDEM DEMISE" by Duffy Brown. Can't wait for the opportunity to read this great sounding book. FUDGE! What can I say - you got me there! The recipe for Irma’s Drop Dead Decadent Rum Fudge sounds heavenly. Love two things about this recipe. One, it's been proven a great recipe by winning a contest and two, love a recipe that gets better with time instead of drying out or the quality going down with time.

    My first line -
“If the Etonville Little Theatre was doing “Carousel” instead of “Bye, Bye Birdie”, I could sing “June Is Bustin’ Out All Over”” Lola Tripper said, humming and sipping a cup of coffee in a back booth of the Windjammer restaurant, which also functioned as my office.

    My 56 -
I debated. I needed to go to sleep, but curiosity was gnawing at me.
