It's
Cozy Food Friday!

That means it's time to share a recipe from
another great cozy mystery!

Today I'm featuring a recipe from the cozy mystery
TREACHEROUS TART by Ellie Grant.

I'm actually featuring two recipes today.

FLAKY PIECRUST

Makes 1 nine-inch piecrust

Ingredients

1 cup vegetable shortening
2 cups flour
1 1/2 teaspoons salt

1. Chill all mixing utensils and ingredients first.

2. Work the shortening into the flour and salt quickly until the particles are as small a possible.

3. Sprinkle in cold water, only enough for the dough to stick together in a ball. It should be dry, not moist. Chill for at least 30 minutes.

4. After the dough is chilled, place it on a pastry board or another flat, nonstick surface. Dust surface lightly with flour. Flatten the dough a little, then use a lightly floured rolling pin to make smooth, even strokes from the center to the edge of the dough.

5. Turn the dough frequently to keep it round. Use an ungreased metal pie pan for flaky crust. Don't turn the crust over when putting it into the pan. Leave rolled side up. Use your fingers to lightly press any cracks in the crust together. Flute crust, if desired.

6. For pies with unbaked fillings, bake the crust at 350 degrees for 10 minutes before add filling. Otherwise, bake the crust with filling.

PUMPKIN PIZZAZZ PIE
~ an old favorite ~
Authors note:
Did you know the original "pumpkin pie" consisted of eggs and milk mixed with sweetener and baked on a fire inside a pumpkin shell?

Ingredients

1 fifteen-ounce can of pumpkin
1 fourteen-ounce can of sweetened condensed milk
2 large eggs
1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
1/2 teaspoon ground ginger
1/2 teaspoon ground nutmeg
1/2 teaspoon salt (optional)
1 nine-inch unbaked piecrust

Mix pumpkin, condensed milk, eggs, spices, and salt in a medium bowl until smooth.

Pour into crust.

Make at 350 degrees for about 40 minutes or until a toothpick inserted comes out clean,

Be sure to cool before you cut!

TREACHEROUS TART by Ellie Grant
Book 2 in the "Pie In The Sky" mystery series
My Book Beginnings for this week..

"Is there any way this could be a different Donald Wickerson?" Maggie Grady asked as she and Ryan Summerour sat drinking coffee. "One who doesn't seem to kill the women who fall in love with him?"

Continuing with the TREACHEROUS TART theme
My Friday 56...

Aunt Clara walked out of the sub shop with Maggie. "I hope they're finished with the pie shop. Making some pie crust right now would do me a world of good."

"They said they'd call. I haven't heard anything. Maybe Ryan could drop us off at the house. We could always make crust there and freeze it for tomorrow."

"Freeze it? Bite your tongue, Maggie Grady! Frozen crust never tastes the same. I thought I taught you better than that."

In this second charming novel in the Pie Shop cozy mystery series, a modern-day Lothario is shot dead, and it’s up to Maggie to clear her aunt and partner-in-pie from the suspect list.

It’s Christmastime at Pie in the Sky, Aunt Clara’s pie shop, and she has a new beau, Donald Wickerson, who loves her Marvelous Mince Pies.

Unfortunately, it seems that this holiday, Donald might only be interested in Aunt Clara for her money. Ryan and Maggie research his background and find he’s had several wives who met with unfortunate “accidents” that left him wealthier. Now they have to convince Aunt Clara that her boyfriend is after more than just her pie recipes.

When Donald stumbles into Pie in the Sky and dies after being shot, Aunt Clara is devastated—and also a suspect, since everyone in Durham knows about Donald from Ryan’s newspaper article. Now Maggie and Ryan will have to prove that someone else in the long list of people he’d wronged finally got the courage to end his life.

  14. I see I wasn't the only one to feature a book by multiple named authors this week. How many names/series do these two have these days? It's hard to keep up with them all, isn't it?
