A Word from Julie Seedorf

Thank you, Lisa, for having me here.

It has been a year or two since I have been on a blog tour. It also has been a year or so since I added a new book to my Fuchsia, MN Series. I would love to tell you this book was easy to write but I can’t.
Hermiony Vidalia Criony Fiddlestadt aka Granny is close to my heart. She is the older person who I would love to emulate. Or at least believe that I can take some of her characteristics into old age.
This series began in 2013. I not only added five more books to this series but I also began a new series that is connected to Fuchsia, MN with the Brilliant, MN Series, added my blogs and columns during the ensuing years.
When I sat down to write Granny Bricks A Bandit I found myself forgetting —I did take on that Granny characteristic — some important details in previous books. Writing this book was a labor of love but it was also a time to reminisce about Fuchsia and Granny, and become terrified that I would not get the details right. And then there is also the fear with number six; that it won’t measure up in my readers eyes. I was second guessing myself.
This is the longest I have spent writing one of the books in the series. It was start and stop but I am happy with the final product after many snafus with editing, so I hope we finally have the editing fixed. That was difficult too. I am comma challenged and I depend on others to help me get it right. From now on I am going to be more vigilant because I want the best results for my readers.
Now that I have got past my doom and gloom I will tell you I still love Hermiony Vidalia Criony Fiddlestadt Crickett. She is getting older but she hasn’t slowed down, although at times she is more serious. One of my reviews said that. I debated if I made a mistake in her character by slowing her down a little and not keeping her totally over-the-top.
Originally I planned on ending this series after the fourth book. I would leave readers wondering if Granny had died or survived with nothing more to come. I decided against that but I wanted to make her character evolve.
In the first book, Granny Hooks A Crook, all we see is a forgetful, cunning, mischievous woman with happenings in Fuchsia that would not happen in real life.  I was tired of all the perceived ideas of elderly people and tired of all the overly restrictive rules in our communities today. Fuchsia is still that way in book six but Granny has grown.
Over the books you will find why Granny lives her life the way she did, restricting her real personality. Finally she is confident in who she is, and what she does without having to hide her quirks and her wacky personality. She has come into her own.
Even though Fuchsia stays an unusual community its residents have lives and hurts just like us. I hope through all the laughter and foolishness those traits can connect with my readers. I want to make people laugh but I want to touch their hearts too.
Angel, Granny’s young step-granddaughter looks up to Granny and wants to follow in her footsteps. Isn’t that what we want as parents and grandparents; to have our grandchildren learn from us? Perhaps she is Fuchsia’s next amateur sleuth.
Where does Granny go from here? I suspect there is more life for her in the coming years. As of this writing I am editing the old books in the series and finding mistakes that were made by a rookie writer so that I get the facts and spelling right in the coming years. I am always one that writes by the seat of my pants, but finally all the details that aren’t outlined might take me down, so I am creating pages I can share with my readers so they can look up the ancestry of Fuchsia.
And…I am painting with watercolor each building highlighted in the series. They will be available for you to see to help you visualize what you are reading, and they will be available on Fuchsia souvenirs. I want to flood you with Fuchsia to keep you laughing and to make your day better.

Remember, each day is your day. You can choose how you live it. You can choose to laugh in the midst of sorrow. You can choose to hide or step up and live. If you only can take one step you are on your way to tomorrow.–Julie Seedorf

MY REVIEW

Granny is back and she’s as ornery as ever!

GRANNY BRICKS A BANDIT, the sixth installment of the Fuchsia, Minnesota Mysteries, has been highly anticipated by fans of the series. I know I’ve been looking forward to it. It does not disappoint. It’s the perfect addition to this fun series.

Hermiony Vidalia Criony Fiddlestadt aka Granny, is one of the most original cozy mystery heroines you are ever likely to read. This saucy senior lets nothing and no one stand in her way when she has set her mind on something.

It’s a point of fact that author Julie Seedorf knows what it takes to hook a reader. GRANNY BRICKS A BANDIT had me laughing through practically the entire book. When I wasn’t laughing, I was as intent on discovering the mysteries (Yes. More than one.) in this wonderfully penned tale as Granny herself was. I didn’t do half as well as Granny did. I was surprised at what I read when all the secrets came out.

Rather you’re a returning fan of this series, or a new reader, you won’t go wrong with, GRANNY BRICKS A BANDIT.

About the Author

A Bit About Me As An Impassioned Writer As human beings, we are always a work in progress. From birth to death we live, hurt, laugh, cry, feel, and with all of those emotions we grow as people, as family members, and as friends. I am a dreamer and feel blessed to have the opportunity in my writing to pass those dreams on to others. I believe you are never too old to dream and to turn those dreams into a creative endeavor. I live in rural Minnesota and I am a wife, mother, and grandmother. I have worn many hats throughout my life such as working as a waitress, nursing home activities person, office manager and finally a computer repair person eventually owning my own computer sales and repair business. I never forgot my love of writing and quit my computer business in 2012 after signing a contract with Cozy Cat Press for Granny Hooks A Crook, the first book in my Fuchsia, Minnesota Series. Adding four more books to the Fuchsia Series, adding a new Brilliant, Minnesota Series and writing a column for local newspapers feeds my writing creativity. I also dabble a bit in watercolor painting and hope to eventually add pictures to my children’s book series, Granny’s In Trouble. Oh, and did I tell you I like to be a little bit silly.

Take a look at the
releases out today, and this week!
(One or more of the following titles were released earlier in a different format)

Today June 11

Seattle Spice Shop owner Pepper Reece probes murder while juggling a troubled employee, her mother’s house hunt, and a fisherman who’s set his hook for her.

As owner of the Spice Shop in Seattle's famed Pike Place Market, Pepper Reece is always on the go. Between conjuring up new spice blends and serving iced spice tea to customers looking to beat the summer heat, she finally takes a break for a massage. But the Zen moment is shattered when she overhears an argument in her friend Aimee's vintage home decor shop that ends in murder.

Wracked by guilt over her failure to intervene, Pepper investigates, only to discover a web of deadly connections that could ensnare a friend - and Pepper herself.

Community Craft proprietor Sammy Kane suspects that a tantalizing thread links the deaths of her best friend and a bestselling author. But can she weave together the clues?

Samantha “Sammy” Kane is settling into her new life in idyllic Heartsford, Wisconsin, running her late friend Kate Allen’s craft shop, Community Craft when one early June day, bestselling crochet author Jane Johnson visits Heartsford. Captivated by Community Craft, Jane devotes a chapter in her new book, Behind the Seams, to the store. Sammy is honored, though satisfaction quickly turns to shock when she finds Jane strangled to death―her cold hands clutching a copy of her most recently published book, with the words “THE END” raggedly scratched into the cover.

Heavens to Etsy! Not only must Sammy contend with the author’s inauspicious demise, she has to untie some knotty details from her own past. It turns out Kate’s death was not what it seemed, and instead somehow hooked to Jane Johnson’s demise. Handsome Detective Liam Nash is on the “skein”, more than happy to see the shop owner again, if less than enamored by her sleuthing interventions. But this was Sammy’s best friend―she has to know.

Fortunately, Sammy has a “lace” in the hole. As a child, she formed the S.H.E. detective team with her cousin, Heidi, and her sister, Ellie. Having already reconstituted their partnership, the S.H.E. team searches for a pattern behind the latest death. As the case starts to unravel, will Sammy and team be able to sidestep Liam quick enough to stitch together the clues?

Join me tonight from
7:00 - 9:00 pm EST for the
A CRAFTER HOOKS A KILLER
release party.

Sleuth Callie Aspen wants to light up the Fourth of July tea party by solving a celebrity’s decades-old disappearance, but her digging results in more fireworks than she expects.

Last Christmas, Callie Aspen left her tour guide job and settled in Heart's Harbor, Maine. Now, she helps out at Book Tea, her great aunt’s vintage tearoom, where each treat has a bookish clue. Though she’s excited to start her new life, Callie worries she may regret having burned her bridges behind her. Fortunately, she finds immediate distraction in the preparations for a spectacular Fourth of July tea party, which will recreate key moments from the town's rich history.

Intrigued to learn that 1980s TV star Monica Walker was last seen in Heart's Harbor before she vanished―allegedly to elope―Callie probes the townsfolk for information. She’s stunned when several locals share contradictory stories about the last day before Monica's disappearance. Did she intend to leave her hit TV series? Was she being stalked by her ex? And why is the newspaper editor who investigated the story at the time so anxious about the cold case heating up?

When one of the talkative townspeople turns up dead, Callie aims to catch the killer. But it’s no picnic: Deputy Falk doesn’t want her meddling, and the locals suddenly know more about the past than they’d been at liberty to admit. If Callie and the Book Tea crew can’t crack the case, they’ll pay a very steep price in Joy Avon's explosive second Tea and a Read mystery.

Sabrina Tate and her cat, Hitchcock, must sort through the clues when a librarian is killed and justice is overdue . . .
With construction on the town’s new library nearing completion, mystery writer Sabrina Tate is thrilled that local book lovers, and her own forthcoming novel, will soon have a fresh new home. But tensions are rising at the site as the headstrong new librarian insists on telling the construction crew how to do their jobs, bringing work to a standstill. When Sabrina’s cat unearths the dead body of the librarian not long after—and a good friend’s husband is named as the main suspect—she finds herself being pulled into a murder investigation yet again.
While virtually all the workers at the site had a motive to commit the dark deed, Sabrina turns her attention to the victim’s background looking for clues, but hits a dead end when she can’t locate any of the woman’s family. As a string of planted evidence and a murky collection of malicious characters starts to surface, Sabrina knows she and Hitchcock will have to tread carefully, before the library killer decides to check them out for good . . .
Includes delicious dessert recipes!

An invitation to take a truck ride.
A dead body at the truck stop.
She'd entered a world as alien to her as outer space.

Little did Kelly know when she accepted an invitation from her son’s old friend to accompany him while he ran his route, that she’d end up with a dead body and a whole new vocabulary.

Plenty of people in the trucking world had reasons to see Kimberly dead, from drugs to jealousy to prostitution. Join Kelly as she enters a world where people have names like Snacks, Jet, Little Paul, and Lizzie, the resident Lizard Lot. But which one did it? And did I mention the truck stop owner and Little Paul’s wife, Susie?

Middle age can be murder ...

At least that’s how it seems to former crime journalist, Wilhelmina Chance, whose near-fatal accident has given her a strange side effect ... she sees ghosts.

After a messy divorce sends her fleeing back to her hometown of Mystic Notch, nestled in the White Mountains of New Hampshire, Willa finds herself haunted by the tenacious ghost of the town librarian who insists Willa solve her murder.

Luckily, she has lots of help, including a quirky cast of small-town characters, the cat she’s inherited from her grandmother, and her best friend, Pepper, who claims her herbal teas can work magic.

But just when Willa thinks she’s discovered who the killer is, she finds out that things are not what they seem in Mystic Notch, and the case takes a strange turn that has Willa adding even some of her long-time friends to her suspect list.

Can Willa find the real killer in time to keep the magical balance in Mystic Notch on the side of good, or will evil prevail?

A chat with Lynn

LKBR:  Thank you for being here today, Lynn!

Lynn:  Thanks for inviting me.  I love visiting with you and your readers.

LKBR: Please tell us a bit about you, and your book/series.

Lynn:  I’m a cozy mystery author of three different series (TOURIST TRAP, FARM TO FORK) including the CAT LATIMER series – SCONED TO DEATH is book 5 in this Colorado set series.  I’m a country girl (rural Idaho) so I love writing the small town cozies. Add in a pet or two, like Angelica or Snow, and I’m at home.  Currently I live with my husband and two Keeshond puppies, Dexter and Quinn, (and a cat –Thor) in a river town near St. Louis.

LKBR: Any hints or spoilers you can give us about your next book?

Lynn:  SCONED TO DEATH is Cat at her finest. She gets angry when her friend is put in a bad situation and she’s trying to fix things. Especially since it could affect the future of the writing retreat. So she gets herself in a bad spot. But then, doesn’t she always?

LKBR: Have you ever written a scene that you loved but had to remove it for the sake of the story?

Lynn:  Not really. I write very organically so I don’t overwrite the book. I have had to change a scene because it was going down the wrong road, but I don’t keep the original scene. And it’s usually a tweak, not a total delete.

LKBR: Have you ever gotten reader’s block? Just find it hard to get into reading because you are so into your writing?

Lynn:  I get readers block because I don’t have time. Which makes me grumpy. So I read a bit before bed. And I listen to audio books whenever I’m alone in the car. As long as no one calls me.

LKBR: Are there any magazines/publications that as a writer you subscribe to? Are these or others something readers could also benefit from?

Lynn: Not really. I don’t read magazines. I get my news from the internet. Far from the time when I started college and ordered News Weekly (or something like that) so I would know what was going on in the world. But of course, I didn’t read it.

LKBR: Is there anything you would give up if you thought it would make you an even better writer?

Lynn:  Sleep?  Actually, I couldn’t give that up. I’d love to give up my second job, but we’re on a debt reduction plan right now so I’m putting everything I can on bills so we can be debt free in three years.  Crazy plan, but I think we can do it.

LKBR: Any new projects in the works?

Lynn:  You realize who you’re talking to, right? LOL I always have an iron in the fire. I have just announced a new series that is light paranormal, Idaho set cozy. So excited about this project.  And I’m starting Tourist Trap #11 Amy’s bachelorette party in Vegas. J  Should be fun.

LKBR: If you could ask your readers 3 questions, what would they be?

Lynn:  What makes you try a new to you author?  How many books in a series are too many? What do you want to know about your favorite author?

LKBR: Where can readers go to learn more about you and your books?

MY REVIEW

In SCONDED TO DEATH, author Lynn Cahoon brings back our favorite inn proprietress, Cat Latimer, who this time is hosting a group of aspiring cozy mystery authors to her writer’s retreat. Seriously? Does it get any better for a cozy mystery reader than that?! Perfection! And I have no doubt Ms. Cahoon had to have taken some real life cues on this one.

As with the first four installments of the Cat Latimer Mysteries, SCONED TO DEATH is a superbly written book. Author Cahoon has a true talent for detail, making readers feel like a part of her stories. I know I always do. When I was finished, I felt like I had lived the experience of the story rather than having read it.

I was truly stumped with this mystery. I just couldn’t settle on whodunit, never mind why they dunit. Even as I kept warning Cat (Yes. I talk to the characters.), to stay out of the investigation, I couldn’t wait for her to follow each new lead because I was hoping for answers as much as she was. And then I was floored with the reveal. I just didn’t see it coming.

All I can say is, Ms. Cahoon, keep the Cat Latimer mysteries coming! If they’re half as good as SCONED TO DEATH, they’ll be fabulous!
