It's
THROWBACK THURSDAY!
Ready to learn about a new old series?

Today I am featuring a new old series to me by
author Sharon Short. The Stain-Busting Mystery series.

This series contains 6 books.

Need something troublesome and unsightly eliminated permanently? Call Josie Toadfern!
There is no stain on Earth that laundromat owner Josie Toadfern can't conquer, and she's offered to share her expertise on world famous domestic doyenne Tyra Grimes's TV show. No one is more shocked than Josie herself when the Great Grimes shows up in Paradise, Ohio, to tape a segment in Josie's teeny-weeny hometown. But rapidly spreading rumors of the insufferable icon's immoral—and quite possibly illegal—carryings-on have sparked Josie's curiosity, and her uninvited sorting through Grimes's dirty laundry is exposing all manner of dastardly doings—from mischief all the way to murder. And the irrepressible Toadfern soon realizes it will take more than lemon juice to make this lethal stain come out in the wash.

Like nearly everyone else in Paradise, Ohio, local laundromat owner and stain-removal expert Josie Toadfern eagerly awaits the upcoming July 4th Founders Day celebration with its highlight, the annual Breitenstrater Pie Company pie-eating content, sponsored by the owners of the town's upper curst enterprise. But things may not be so sweet this year, what with juicy rumors flying that a black sheep Breitenstrater wants to spill the beans about some deep, dark family secret. And when a pie-making bigwig suspiciously drops dead after sampling the company's latest wares, Josie leaps into action. She loves her teeny-weeny community, despite its blemishes—and any stain on its reputation must be eradicated! But if she sticks her thumb—or her nose—into this particular pastry, she's going to pull our more thank a plum...and she may end up getting her own lethal just desserts.

Laundromat owner and stain removal expert Josie Toadfern knows her tiny twon's dirty clothes and most of its dirty little secrets. But an upcoming "Psychic Fair" is bringing a brand-new mess to Paradises, Ohio. The arrival of all manner of mystics and soothsayers has raised the dangerous ire of a local evangelist and his minions, as well as the more conservative citizens of Paradise—so it doesn't take a crystal ball to predict that murder will ultimately foul the fair. But Josie couldn't foresee that she'dbe the one to stubmle upon the body, or that her impeccable stain-sense would embroil her in the nasty homicidal happenings. And suddenly her attempt to psych out a killer has Josie's own future looking very grim indeed.

There's no fun in dysfunctional
Small-town laundress Josie Toadfern has her own fair share of dirty laundry—namely the Toadfern clan! Ostracized from the family unit ever since her parents dumped eight-year-old Josie in a local orphanage, the stain-busting dynamo's stunned to find herself invited to crabby old family matriarch "Mamaw" Toadfern's Thanksgiving celebration—and too curious to refuse.
But an even bigger shock is waiting for her there: Josie's long lost mom and pop, blandly unapologetic and full of new—probably illegal—get-rich-quick schemes. And when a dead body is tossed into the already explosive chaos of bitter feelings, intra-family feuding, and incinerated turkey meat, Josie finds herself in the most uncomfortable position of having to prove her disreputable dad innocent of murder. But cleaning up messes is Josie's business. And sometimes blood is thicker than cranberry sauce—and a much more difficult stain to eliminate.

As her big 3-0 approaches, Josie Toadfern's life seems more or less wrinkle-free. Since the laundromat owner, stain removal expert, and confirmed snoop's local stain-busting column went regional, she's become a true small-town celeb. And now she's been asked to give a speech in honor of her deceased junior high school teacher, Mrs. Oglevee—even though Josie remembers finding herself in hot water with the dour disciplinarian on numerous occasions.
But then the late educator's alleged long-lost daughter hands her a note claiming that Mrs. O was murdered. Suddenly more than unpleasant middle school memories keep Josie up nights, as her unauthorized investigation begins turning up some very interesting dirt. Mrs. O, apparently, was more than just a tight-lipped prude who ruled detention with an iron fist. And when an Oglevee relative ends up dead, Josie realizes she'll have to air all of the family's dirty laundry . . . or she'll be spending her thirtieth birthday removing bloodstains.

As if running a successful laundromat and writing a perennially popular (and soon to be national!) household tips column weren't enough to keep Josie Toadfern busy, she's taken a gig on the side. The Mayfair Sisters, a local singing group from way back when, are reuniting for a benefit, and they need Josie to perform her stain-busting magic on their old tie-dyed costumes. But the dresses go missing, only to reappear in a fashion more deadly than retro.
Although Josie's the prime suspect in the murder and mayhem that ensue, she's not about to allow her squeaky-clean reputation to be soiled by some false accusations. But this time, her snooping will land her in some very hot water . . .

Answer to Whodunit Wednesday

FOUL BALL BURGLARY - Solution

"Excuse me ," a high-pitched voice drawled. "I can tell you who stole the coins --if you're interested."

The startled officers turned to see a dapper little man step out from behindmthe leafy palm fronds. "Who are you?" the tall one demanded.

"Sherman Holmes, at your service. The thief was Jake."

"Jake!" The tall officer had to think a second. "You mean the kid who discovered the robbery? How could he be the robber?"

Sherman knew he had their attention. He took his time, reaching into his coat pocket and pulling out a briar pipe.

"What young Jake discovered," Sherman said as he sucked on the unlit pipe, "was a broken window, a screeching burglar alarm, and a coin collection lying temptingly on the table. All he had to do was yell back that there'd been a robbery. Then, while the rest of us went around to the front of the house, Jake slipped inside, turned over the table, and took the coins. They may be in his pockets or he may have hidden them somewhere, But Jake's your thief."

The tall officer still looked interested. can you prove what you just said?"

"Of course, old bean," Sherman said, insulted at the notion that he would form a theory without proof. "Go back to the crime scene and check the broken window glass. It's underneath the tablecloth. That means the table was overturned after the baseball broke the window, not before. It couldn't be anyone but Jake."

YAY! I finally guessed one!
How did you do?

Check back next Wednesday for another exciting case!

FOUL BALL BURGLARY

Sherman Holmes sat on a park bench, watching as the neighborhood boys played a pick-up game of baseball. "I should retrieve my great-great-grandfather's bat and teach those lads the art of cricket," the amateur detective thought, then realized he didn't know how to play it himself.

"Oh, well," he sighed. "The lads are awfully close to those house." And that, of course, was the exact moment when the batter hit a long fly in just that direction. Glass shattered and a home alarm began to wail.

The left fielder, a boy called Jake, went after the ball. He scrambled up a high wooden fence and straddled the top, gazing at the house and yard below. "The ball broke a window, all right," he shouted back to the others. Then his eyes widened. "Hey--you better call the police. I think there's been a robbery."

The game broke up immediately. Jake lowered himself into the backyard while the other boys circled around to the front of the house and awaited police.

Jake unlocked the door from the inside and let the officers in. Sherman sneaked in right behind. The rotund little Southerner was safely ensconced behind a potted palm when a man and a woman drove up in separate cars.

The newcomers joined the police inside. Sherman edged his potted palm into a good viewing position and managed to piece together the essentials.

The newcomers were brother and sister, Larry and Laura Conners. The house had belonged to their late father, who kept his coin collection on display on a table by the rear garden window. This was what Jake must have seen from from the fence. The heavy table lay on its side, not far from the wayward baseball. Remnants of the broken window were everywhere. A patrolman walked across the fallen tablecloth and Sherman could hear the muted crunch of glass under the white linen.

The Conners both had keys and both knew the alarm code. They has been here together just this morning, arguing about the coins.

"Laura must've come back and stolen them," snarled Larry. "Then she overturned the table in some pathetic attempt to blame it on a burglar. I was at home, ten miles from here, washing my car. My neighbors saw me. I was there right up until you called me."

Laura glared at her brother. "I was at home, too, eight miles in the other direction. I was on the phone with Aunt Doreen and doing my laundry. You can check with her if you want to."

Sherman wanted to jump out from behind the palm and instantly solve the case. But that might seem a little odd. So he restrained himself and waited until the officers were leaving.

Who stole the coins?

It's happened to most of us.
We've had a dream and wondered,
"What did that mean?"

Author and clinical psychologist
Mary Kennedy
is here today to answer that question!

Mary is the author of
DREAM INTERPRETATION
A Psychologist's Guide

Dawn Frazier wants to know - Why do I dream so much about people who were close to me that passed away?

Mary’s answer - We dream about loved ones who have passed because they are still part of our lives and we hold them in our hearts. Remember, death ends a life, but it doesn't end a relationship. We dream about them because we want to believe that they are well and happy.

*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*

Linda Chudej said - "I have a recurring dream that I am walking through a huge house that my husband and I have just bought. The windows are all different shapes and sizes, many of them going from floor to ceiling. All I can think about is how difficult it will be to buy curtains for those windows!"

Mary’s answer - The House Dream is a classic and well documented. The house represents our wishes, dreams, aspirations. It's all the things we have ahead of us--our untapped potential. Usually the house is bright and airy with endless rooms that seem to stretch on forever. The dreamer is so happy to be wandering through all the beautiful rooms and wonders what is in store for her. Some of my clients report that they can "return" to the same house in future dreams and they always look forward to it. Sometimes there is a "hidden" room that only the dreamer knows about. That's interesting, too!

*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*

Anonymous asks - In my dream I was in the Regency era. I was in a room alone but could hear music and voices coming from another part of this grand house. I even remember the wallpaper. It had textured velvet designs. I remember how it felt. A man came into the room. He had black eyes. He walked slowly toward me and I backed away until I was against the wall and I could feel the velvet of the wallpaper pressed against my back. He put his hands on my upper arms and just stared at me. My breathing grew heavier and he started to lower his head. Just before we kissed, we heard voices very close and he pulled away from me and left the room. I get the feeling that I didn't even know who he was. What does all this mean?

Mary's answer - This is a very detailed dream with loads of sensory details, the sights, the sound, the feel of the wallpaper. Romantic dreams like this are common, but this one is especially interesting because I would bet money that the dreamer is a creative type! Fascinating dream...I bet she wishes she could return to it. Some of my clients--not many--do manage to "return" to pleasant dreams.

Wow.
Interesting dreams and great insights from Mary!

HALLOWEEN HIJINKS
Book 1 in the Zoe Donovan Mystery series
by Kathi Daley

Amid a backdrop of zombies on the run and Halloween festivities, animal control officer Zoe Donovan is faced with losing something she loves in order to save someone she loves when she finds a dead body in the basement of a haunted house just two days before Halloween. With the help of her best friends, Levi and Ellie, and her dog Charlie, she delves into a mystery as complex and multilayered as the feelings she develops for her ex-nemesis Zak Zimmerman. Halloween Hijinks is the perfect recipe, combining holiday fun with a touch of humor, a pinch of romance, and a dollop of murder.

I enjoyed HALLOWEEN HIJINKS very much. I will say, for those of you who follow my reviews, this is not one of the “cozy” cozies that I normally read and review.

In this first book in the Zoe Donovan Mystery series Ms. Daley has created a very real character in animal control officer Zoe Donovan. I connected with her character through her love of animals and her need to find them good homes.
I love the idea of a “zombie run” on Halloween. Sounds like it would be a real blast!
The mystery in this book was good and tight. And it wasn’t until the reveal that I myself knew who the killer was.
Give HALLOWEEN HIJINKS a try and I’m sure you’ll want to add this series to you TBR stack.
