BOOK TOUR

I'm so happy to be a stop on the blog tour for
BARK IF IT'S MURDER
Book 3 in the Dog Club Mysteries
by V.M. Burns

Lilly Echosby just witnessed a murder on a pet cam. Or did she?

When a last-minute opportunity arises to accompany her boss to an art auction in Atlanta, Lilly throws some money at the problem of where to board her toy poodle Aggie (short for Agatha Christie). Posh Pet Haven offers the most luxurious canine accommodations in all of Chattanooga, Tennessee. The place even provides pet cams so anxious owners can check in on their pampered pooches.
But when Lilly tries to take a peek at her poodle, she gets a terrible shock—she witnesses what she’s sure is a murder. She thinks the victim may be the wealthy co-owner of Pet Haven. The police follow her lead but find no body, no evidence of a crime, and no video record. Starting to feel like the dog owner who cried wolf, Lilly decides to go undercover to catch a killer who may be hiding in plain sight . . .

A CHAT WITH V.M. BURNS

LKBR:  Thank you for being here today, V.M.!

VMB: I’m thrilled. Thank you so much for having me.

LKBR: Please tell us a bit about you, and your book/series
.
VMB: Actually, you can learn a lot about me by reading my Dog Club Mystery Series. I share a lot of the same personality traits and background as my protagonist, Lilly Ann Echosby. Similar to my Lilly, I was born and raised in Indiana, but have now relocated to Chattanooga, Tennessee. I also love poodles and have two toy poodles, Kensington (Kenzie) and Cash. I used to compete with my poodles in canine performance events (obedience and agility) and I love mysteries. Also, just like Lilly, I didn’t realize that I had a fear of heights until I moved to the south where I’m now surrounded by mountains.
In the upcoming book in my Dog Club Mystery Series, BARK IF IT’S MURDER, Lilly boards her dog, Aggie, at a pet resort which allows her to watch her dog on a pet cam set up around the facility. When Lily views, what she believes to be a murder, she is determined to get to the bottom of the mystery.

LKBR: Any hints or spoilers you can give us about your next book?

VMB: I just finished writing the next book in the series, Paw and Order. I don’t want to give away any spoilers, but I will say that Lilly might be adding a new addition to her family.

LKBR: Have you ever written a scene that you loved but had to remove it for the sake of the story?

VMB: Sadly, yes. I have written scenes that I loved, but later, I realize they don’t advance the plot or they just don’t work. It’s hard to cut scenes, but sometimes you have to “kill your darlings.”

LKBR: Have you ever gotten reader’s block? Just find it hard to get into reading because you are so into your writing?

VMB: I don’t know that I have gotten, readers block, but I don’t allow myself to read anything new while I’m writing. So, I can’t say that anything has made it hard for me to read. I love reading (especially cozy mysteries). However, I do have times when I don’t want to read anything new. Sometimes, I really just want to go back and reread the cozy classics like Agatha Christie, Rex Stout and Dorothy Sayer. Generally, a little time spent with those books lights a fire that makes me want to sit down and write.

LKBR: Are there any magazines/publications that as a writer you subscribe to? Are these or others something readers could also benefit from?

VMB: I sign up for CrimeReads.com, Crime Scene Magazine, and Ellery Queen Magazine. I love reading the articles and short stories and generally find new authors to add to my To-Be-Read pile.

LKBR: Any new projects in the works?

VMB: In addition to the Dog Club Mystery Series, I write two others series. I have a Mystery Bookshop Mystery Series and an RJ Franklin mystery series. I have books coming out in both of those series this year. The second book in the RJ Franklin Series, Motherless Child, will release on September 10th and the fifth book in my Mystery Bookshop Mystery Series, Bookmarked for Murder will release in November. I’m working on more books in all three series, so I’ve got a pretty full plate at the moment.

LKBR: If you could ask your readers 3 questions, what would they be?

VMB: 1) What is your favorite thing about cozies that keep you coming back for more?
2) What is your number one pet peeve that would make you stop reading a series?
3) In the second book in the Dog Club Mystery Series, Lilly Echosby moves to Chattanooga, Tennessee, but her children are in Chicago and New York. Would you like to see them move closer?

LKBR: Where can readers go to learn more about you and your books?

VMB: http://www.vmburns.com (website)

LKBR: Thank you so much, Valerie for letting us get to know you better!

VMB: Thank you for having me today. I appreciate the opportunity to talk about my books and to get better acquainted with readers.

MY REVIEW

I’m so happy author V.M. Burns decided she wanted to be a writer. Her books are fun and entertaining, and she has a good sense of what readers like.

In, BARK IF IT’S MURDER, Lilly and Aggie are back, and my time spent with them was just as wonderful as my other visits. Seriously, V.M. Burns has a way of making you feel you really are a part of the story.

What’s worse than finding a dead body? Watching someone become that dead body! This scene was well written, and, at least for me, jaw dropping. I really enjoyed that Ms. Burns let BARK IF IT’S MURDER get into the story a bit before getting to the murder, mystery, and mayhem begin.

A mystery with a surprising outcome, BARK IF IT’S MURDER is the perfect installment into the Dog Club Mysteries. Once you’ve read it, you’ll be begging for more!
