CITY OF LIES
Book 1 in the Counterfeit Lady Mysteries

An exciting new historical mystery series featuring woman-on-the-run Elizabeth Miles--from the beloved national bestselling author of the Gaslight Mysteries.

Like most women, Elizabeth Miles assumes many roles; unlike most, hers have made her a woman on the run. Living on the edge of society, Elizabeth uses her guile to relieve so-called respectable men of their ill-gotten gains. But brutal and greedy entrepreneur Oscar Thornton is out for blood. He's lost a great deal of money and is not going to forgive a woman for outwitting him. With his thugs hot on her trail, Elizabeth seizes the moment to blend in with a group of women who have an agenda of their own.

She never expects to like or understand these privileged women, but she soon comes to respect their intentions, forming an unlikely bond with the wealthy matriarch of the group whose son Gideon is the rarest of species--an honest man in a dishonest world. She knows she's playing a risky game, and her deception could be revealed at any moment, possibly even by sharp-eyed Gideon. Nor has she been forgotten by Thornton, who's biding his time within this gilded orbit, waiting to strike. Elizabeth must draw on her wits and every last ounce of courage she possesses to keep her new life from being cut short by this vicious shadow from her past.

SIX CATS A SLAYIN'
Book 10 in the Cat in the Stacks Mysteries

Charlie Harris and his Maine Coon cat, Diesel, are busy decking the halls for the holidays when an unexpected delivery and a shocking murder conspire to shake up the season in this all new installment of the New York Times bestselling series.

December twenty-fifth is right around the corner, and Charlie is making his list and checking it twice. He is doing his best to show some peace and goodwill toward his nosy neighbor Gerry Arbitron, a real estate agent who seems to have designs on his house (and maybe on him, as well), while preparing for a very important role, indeed--his first Christmas as a grandfather.

The last thing Charlie expects is to gain several new additions to his family. Charlie finds a box on his doorstep with five kittens inside and a note begging him to keep them safe. With Diesel's help, Charlie welcomes the tiny felines into the Harris household just as Gerry decides it is time to throw a lavish holiday party.

Determined to make her mark on Athena, Gerry instead winds up dead at her very own party. Though attempts to dig into her past come up empty, Charlie and his girlfriend, Helen Louise, witness two heated exchanges involving Gerry before her death: one with a leading citizen and another with the wife of a good friend. Will one of these ladies wind up on the sheriff's naughty list? Charlie and Diesel have to wrap up the case before the special season is ruined by a sinister scrooge.

MY REVIEW

Author Miranda James is an amazing voice in the world of cozy mysteries. It’s always a guarantee you’ll be enjoying a superbly written story when picking up a book by this author.

SIX CATS A SLAYIN’ is the proof in the pudding that my above statement is true. James has once again taken her readers on an adventure with Charlie and Diesel that they won’t soon forget. And the way they both interact with the kittens found in this story, adorable.

An absolutely clever whodunit, I finished SIX CATS A SLAYN’ in record time. I was so completely involved in the mystery, day turned to night while I did my best to put all the pieces together. For the record, I never did. Really well done.

My one critique? There was no action to the reveal itself. This has happened in several of the books in this series. It makes an absorbing story feel anticlimactic. There was one shock thrown in by way of a text, but over all not what I was looking for by way of wrapping up the mystery aspect.

I am in no way sorry I read SIX CATS A SLAYIN’. And fans of the Cat in the Stacks series will be delighted with this installment.

GOOD LUCK!
