NANA'S FAMILY COOKBOOK
by Hannie P. Scott

Nana's Family Cookbook ♥ A Tribute to Mom
Out of the many cookbooks I've created over the past few years, this one is by far the most special. These are my mom's recipes and a few other recipes from family members. This book means more to me than any other book I've ever created. These recipes are what I grew up on. These recipes are what I'm made of (literally)!
A family gathering wouldn’t be a family gathering without these foods. Just the smell of some of these dishes brings back so many fond childhood memories. This cookbook is full of homemade recipes, soul foods, and comfort foods that just make life so much better. I made this family recipe book with lots of love for my family and friends. It is my deepest hope and wish that you and your family can enjoy them all the same.

MY REVIEW

The title of this cookbook really appealed to me. I mean, recipes from someone’s Nana? They would have to be wonderful, right? But these aren’t all the made from scratch recipes that my Mommom made. Several of the recipes included take help from per-packaged items. However, I don’t find that this has to be a negative thing. For days when you can’t spend a lot of time preparing your meal, there’s nothing wrong with store bought help.

My main disappointment with NANA’S FAMILY COOKBOOK is the lack of photos. I’m sure for smaller press or self-published cookbooks it’s more expensive to include photos, but out of the forty recipes in this book, it would have been nice to have a few to reference.

Some of the recipes you’ll find in this cookbook are . . . Maw Maw’s Blueberry Muffins, Hannie’s Avocado Toast, Crab Dip, Cole Slaw Salad, Porcupine Meatballs, Crawfish Chowder, Chocolate Chip Pound Cake, Mississippi Mud Pie, and over 30 more.

NANA’S FAMILY COOKBOOK does come in print, but I picked my Kindle copy for free!

  1. This doesn’t sound like a “Nana-type” cookbook to me, either. Plus, I can’t imagine a cookbook without photos. Happy Thursday, Lisa!

  2. Thank you for the review. Sounds like the Nana must be from like my generation (old enough to have grandkids and even great grands) and not of my Granny's generation. Some of the recipes sounds very similar to those I learned to bake on when I was once out on my own. I,too, like to have photos. Although our end results may not turn out looking like that, I am a visual person and a photo is usually the first thing to catch my eye even on a recipe.
