PAWS AND EFFECT by Sofie Kelly
KILLING TIME by Leslie Budewitz

PAWS AND EFFECT
Book 8 in the Magical Cats Mysteries
by Sofie Kelly

Magical cats Owen and Hercules and resourceful librarian Kathleen Paulson are back in the latest from the New York Times bestselling author of Faux Paw...

Kathleen is excited to meet three old pals of her beau, Detective Marcus Gordon, while they visit charming Mayville Heights on business. But the reunion is cut short when one of the friends is killed—and the evidence points toward Marcus as the murderer.

Though it seems she doesn’t know all of Marcus’s secrets, Kathleen is sure he’s no killer. With his suspect status sidelining him from investigating the case, it’s up to Kathleen and her feline partners-in-crime to find whoever is framing Marcus—and make sure the good detective hasn’t found his last clue.

MY REVIEW

Fabulous felines Owen and Hercules are back in enchanting book eight of the Magical Cat Mysteries.

Author Sofie Kelly has done such an amazing job with this series. With each new installment I see the growth of not only the characters, but also in author Kelly’s writing.

Protagonist Kathleen Paulson has her hands full in, PAWS AND EFFECT when her boyfriend’s friends come to visit and one of them is murdered. With her honey, Detective Marcus Gordon being a main suspect, Kathleen works hard to find the killer and clear her guy’s name.

A fast moving, exciting story, PAWS AND EFFECT was a captivating page turner that I couldn’t put down for long. The scene of the killer’s reveal was filled with such action and suspense that it found me holding my breath.

The next book in this magical series will be the ninth. If it’s anything like the first eight, this series is sure have more than nine lives!

Check the back of your book for an excerpt for THE WHOLE CAT AND CABOODLE, book one in the Second Chance Cat Mysteries by Sofie Kelly writing as Sofie Ryan.

KILLING THYME
Book 3 in the Spice Shop Mysteries
by Leslie Budewitz

In Seattle’s Pike Place Market, Spice Shop owner Pepper Reece is savoring her business success, but soon finds her plans disrupted by a killer in the latest from the national bestselling author of Guilty as Cinnamon.

Pepper Reece’s to-do list is longer than the shopping list for a five-course dinner, as she conjures up spice blends bursting with seasonal flavor, soothes nervous brides fretting over the gift registry, and crosses her fingers for a rave review from a sharp-tongued food critic. Add to the mix a welcome visit from her mother, Lena, and she’s got the perfect recipe for a busy summer garnished with a dash of fun.

While browsing in the artists’ stalls, Pepper and Lena drool over stunning pottery made by a Market newcomer. But when Lena recognizes the potter, Bonnie Clay, as an old friend who disappeared years ago, the afternoon turns sour. To Pepper’s surprise, Bonnie seems intimately connected to her family’s past. After Bonnie is murdered only days later, Pepper is determined to uncover the truth. But as Pepper roots out long-buried secrets, will she be digging her own grave?

MY REVIEW

KILLING THYME is the perfect book to add seasoning to your reading list!

Leslie Budewitz is an amazing author. Every new book she writes is better than the one before. Her unique style entices you to savor every word. Being set in Seattle in famous Pike Place Market, her Spice Shop Mysteries may not sound like a typical cozy. Be assured, all the elements of a cozy are present. Being set in such a big place only serves to spice things up.

I have enjoyed getting to know series lead, Pepper Reece, as well as her staff, and the rest of the cast of characters. The addition of Pepper’s mother in this installment brought a new and welcome dynamic.

In KILLING THYME, the sudden appearance, and even more sudden murder of a friend from the past has Pepper determined to get to the bottom of things, and me trying hard to solve the mystery with her. I never did. This clever plot had me so fooled I never saw the exciting reveal coming. Well done Ms. Budewitz!
