Calla Lily Mysteries.

In California’s Wine Country, Someone Wants Lily Dead

When Lily Callahan returns home to California’s wine country, sparks fly amid a hail of bullets as she and U.S. Marshall Austin Jennings take cover.
Money, fame, and love all come into play as motives when Lily and Austin try to find out who sent hired guns to kill Lily. The trouble begins soon after her beloved Aunt Lettie dies and leaves her estate to Lily—is it about the money?

>>>Is Someone Trying To Replicate Lily's Soap Opera Murder?

Is life imitating art? Lily’s trouble-making character in a long-running TV soap was recently killed by a paid hitman. Is a crazed fan trying to end Lily’s life as well as her acting career? Did her agent borrow a page from the script after Lily dismissed him?

>>>An Old Flame Who Will Kill To Get What He Wants

Lily’s surprised to find an old flame waiting for her when she returns home. Has he reached the point that if he can’t have her, nobody can? If it’s about an old love that’s become dangerous, the new one that propels Lily and Austin into each other’s arms won’t help.
Life in small-town California wine country is a tangled vine of mystery, suspense, and intrigue.

The curtain may fall on the Calla Lily Players' first season unless Lily and Austin can find a killer on the loose in California's wine country.

Torrential rains threaten to put a damper on The Calla Lily Players’ first outdoor theater production. When the ground suddenly shifts, buried secrets revealed amid the tangled vines put the spotlight on murder. As Lily and Austin dig deeper into the mystery, drama unfolds onstage and off. The race is on to find a killer before opening night.

BOOK TOUR

I'm happy to be a stop on the blog tour for
A CURIO KILLING
Book 3 in the Keepsake Cove Mysteries
by Mary Ellen Hughes

Callie finds treble in Keepsake Cove when her ex-boyfriend is framed for murder
Callie Reed is looking forward to her first Keepsake Cove spring festival. But her excitement dims considerably when she learns that her ex-boyfriend, Hank, will be performing with one of the hired country-western bands. Callie vows to keep her distance, but that changes when the band's manager, Bobby Linville, is found dead, killed with the music box Hank bought at Callie's shop.
Hank is soon singing a sad tune in a detention center with Callie his only lifeline. Though thoroughly aware of his many faults, she knows violence and murder aren't in his blood. But that means one of her fellow Keepsake Cove residents must be hiding a dark secret―something Callie desperately needs to uncover.

A CHAT WITH MARY ELLEN

LKBR:  Thank you for being here today, Mary Ellen!

MEH: Thanks for having me, Lisa. This is one of my favorite places to be!

LKBR: Please tell us a bit about you, and your book/series.

MEH: I am the author of eleven cozy mystery books. My latest, A CURIO KILLING, was just released and is the third of the Keepsake Cove series.

Keepsake Cove is a town-within-a-town that is full of specialty shops offering particular collectibles. My main character, Callie, owns House of Melody, a collectible music box shop, and she lives in a tiny, fairy-tale cottage behind it, both of which she inherited from an aunt. She shares the cottage with Jagger, a Russian Blue cat (also inherited), loves her new life but somehow gets involved with solving murders!

LKBR: Any hints or spoilers you can give us about A CURIO KILLING?

MEH: Not a spoiler, but Callie’s ex-boyfriend, Hank, who she thought she’d shaken off months ago, shows up in Keepsake Cove as part of a band booked for the Cove’s spring festival. He falls into big trouble, and Callie is the only one who believes in his innocence enough to get him out of it… if she can.

LKBR: Have you ever gotten reader’s block? Just find it hard to get into reading because you are so into your writing?

MEH: I’ve sometimes gotten stuck, maybe midway through a book, but not exactly blocked. Usually talking it over with my husband or my critique group gives me the jump-start and ideas I need to move forward.

LKBR: Is there anything you would give up if you thought it would make you an even better writer?

MEH: Sure! Broccoli, tread milling, and very bad movies. I’m willing to sacrifice, LOL!

LKBR: Any new projects in the works?

MEH: Yes! I’m knee-deep into writing a new book for a brand new series that will have a craft fair and knitting focus! A WICKED YARN will be written under a pen name, Emmie Caldwell, and should be published in the fall of 2020.

LKBR: If you could ask your readers 3 questions, what would they be?

MEH: What kind of characters do you like to see in books? What storylines interest you the most? What should I fix for dinner tonight??

LKBR: Where can readers go to learn more about you and your books?

LKBR: Thank you so much, Mary Ellen, for letting us get to know you better!

MEH: Thanks for having me, Lisa! It’s always fun to be here.

MY REVIEW

I have adored everything I have read by author Mary Ellen Hughes. The Keepsake Cove Mysteries are no exception. Since the first page of book one, A FATAL COLLECTION, I’ve been invested in the lives of the characters, the town, everything.

A CURIO KILLING was a fabulous read cover to cover. The characters have grown so much since the beginning. The excitement of the Spring Festival really drew me in. I had a longing to be walking down the streets lined with the quaint collectable shops.

The mystery element of this story was extremely well done. Ms. Hughes truly knows how to keep readers on the edge of our seats. I held my breath for a good deal of this story, and didn’t release it until the reveal.

A CURIO KILLING, indeed the entire Keepsake Cove series is a perfect example of what a true cozy series should be. Author Hughes doesn’t rely on “edginess” to make her mysteries pop. She stays true to the genre, and that means everything to me when reading a cozy mystery.

I'm so happy to join Berkley Mystery in
celebrating the release of
MRS. JEFFERIES
AND THE ALMS OF THE ANGEL
Book 38 in the Mrs. Jefferies Mysteries
by Emily Brightwell

When a wealthy widow is murdered, Mrs. Jeffries investigates what happens when money can't buy your life in this all-new installment in the beloved Victorian Mystery series.

Margaret Starling wasn’t the sort of woman anyone expected to be murdered. She was on the advisory board of the London Angel Alms Society, she was an active member of St. Peter’s Church, and, best of all, she was always willing to lend a hand to a friend or a neighbor in need of advice. She was also a wealthy upper-class widow. But money alone won’t protect you when someone decides it’s high time you met your maker.

Margaret’s next-door neighbor considered her an odious busybody, the Reverend Reginald Pontefract wished she’d never set foot in St. Peter’s, and half the advisory board of the London Angel Alms Society heartily hoped she’d come down with pneumonia before the next quarterly meeting.

All in all, Margaret wasn’t as well regarded as she’d always thought she was. But Mrs. Jeffries and Inspector Witherspoon know that justice isn’t a popularity contest, and they won’t rest until they sift through the suspects to catch a sinister scrooge.

It's new release day!
Check out some of the titles you can get today.

Librarian Carrie Singleton is building a haven, but one of her neighbors is misbehavin'. Can resident spirit Evelyn help Carrie catch the culprit who made her a ghost?

In winter, the Haunted Library is a refuge for homeless townspeople. When a group purchases a vacant house to establish a daytime haven for the homeless, Carrie offers the library as a meeting place for the Haven House committee, but quickly learns that it may be used for illegal activities.

As the new Sunshine Delegate, Carrie heads to the hospital to visit her cantankerous colleague, Dorothy, who had fallen outside the local supermarket. She tells Carrie that her husband tried to kill her--and that he murdered her Aunt Evelyn, the library's resident ghost, six years earlier.

And then Dorothy is murdered--run off the road as soon as she returns to work. Evelyn implores Carrie to find her niece's killer, but that's no easy task: Dorothy had made a hobby of blackmailing her neighbors and colleagues. Carrie, Evelyn, and Smoky Joe the cat are on the case, but are the library cards stacked against them?

In award-winning author Elizabeth J. Duncan's tenth Penny Brannigan mystery set in North Wales, Canadian amateur sleuth Penny Brannigan attends a dinner party at a posh country house--where a historic chair disappears and a waiter is murdered.

Artist and spa owner Penny Brannigan has been asked to organize a formal dinner to mark the centenary of the armistice that ended World War One. After dinner, the guests adjourn to the library for a private exhibition of the Black Chair, a precious piece of Welsh literary history awarded in 1917 to poet Hedd Wyn. But to the guests' shock, the newly restored bardic chair is missing. And then Penny discovers the rain-soaked body of a waiter.

When Penny learns that the victim was the nephew of one of her employees, she is determined to find the killer. Meanwhile, the local police search for the Black Chair. The Prince of Wales is due to open an exhibit featuring the chair in three weeks, so time is not on their side. A visit to a nursing home to consult an ex-thief convinces Penny that the theft of the Black Chair and the waiter's murder are connected. She rushes to Dublin to consult a disagreeable antiquarian, who might know more than he lets on, and during the course of her investigation confronts a gaggle of suspicious travelers and an eccentric herbalist who seems to have something to hide. Can Penny find the chair and the culprit before she is laid to rest in the green grass of Wales?

USA Today bestselling and award-winning author Ellen Byron cranks it up to eleven in the fifth fast and funny Cajun Country mystery.

Louisiana B&B owner Maggie Crozat kicks up her heels at a country music festival--but she'll have one foot in the grave if she can't bring the killer of a diva's hanger-on to heel.

Grab your tickets for Cajun Country Live!, the pickers' and crooners' answer to the legendary New Orleans Jazz and Heritage Festival. Maggie Crozat, proprietor of the Crozat Plantation B&B, plans to be in the cheering section when her friend Gaynell Bourgeois takes the stage with her band, Gaynell and the Gator Girls.

The festival's headliner, native daughter Tammy Barker, rocketed to stardom on a TV singing competition. She has the voice of an angel...and the personality of a devilish diva. But Maggie learns that this tiny terror carries a grudge against Gaynell. She's already sabotaged the Gator Girls' JazzFest audition. When a member of Tammy's entourage is murdered at the festival, Tammy makes sure Gaynell is number one on the suspect list.

Gaynell has plenty of company on that list--including every one of Tammy's musicians. Posing as a groupie, Maggie infiltrates Tammy's band and will have to hit all the right notes to clear her friend's name.

Quaker midwife Rose Carroll must fight bias and blind assumptions to clear the name of a friend when a murderer strikes in nineteenth-century Massachusetts . . .

No stranger to judgmental attitudes in her small town of Amesbury, Quaker midwife Rose Carroll is nonetheless stunned when society matron Mayme Settle publicly snubs her good friend Bertie for her nontraditional lifestyle. When Mrs. Settle is later found murdered—and a supposed witness insists Bertie was spotted near the scene of the crime—the police have no choice but to set their sights on the slighted woman as their main suspect.

Rose is certain her friend is innocent of the heinous deed, and when Rose isn’t busy tending to her duties as midwife, she enlists the help of a blind pregnant client—who’s endured her own share of prejudice—to help her sift through the clues. As the two uncover a slew of suspects tied to financial intrigues, illicit love, and an age-old grudge over perceived wrongs, Rose knows she’ll have to bring all her formidable intelligence to bear on solving the crime. Because circumstantial evidence can loom large in small minds, and she fears her friend will soon become the victim of a grave injustice . . .
