Dessert Delivery Service Eyed
in Student’s Death

By Laura Bradford
Staff reporter

The suspicious death of a Silver Lake College student has police looking closely at a dessert the victim was eating when she collapsed on her dorm room floor.

Melinda B. Tully, 21, of Cincinnati was rushed to Silver Lake General Hospital Monday night where she was pronounced dead. Sources tell The Silver Lake Herald that the item the victim was eating in the moments leading up to her death had been delivered by The Emergency Dessert Squad—a brand new startup headed by local resident, Winnie Johnson.

An autopsy on Tully is being performed.

By Laura Bradford
Staff reporter

How fortunate for Silver Lake that mystery author Elizabeth Lynn Casey's car broke down while passing through town.

Ms. Casey is going to be with us for a few days waiting for the necessary car part to come in, so she has agreed to host Open Mic Night on Tuesday over at Beans.

Make sure to get there early. They expect seats to fill up fast.

Emergency Dessert Squad Mysteries

Laura Bradford!

The first book in the delicious new Emergency Dessert Squad Mystery series from national bestselling author Laura Bradford.

With her rent rising faster than her pie crust, bakery owner Winnie Johnson had hoped to be rescued by an inheritance from her wealthy friend and neighbor Gertrude Redenbacher. Instead all she inherits is the widow’s hostile hissing tabby, Lovey, and a vintage ambulance, restored by Gertrude’s late husband. As her dream crumbles, Winnie makes her final delivery—a peach pie to an elderly widower. But she finds Bart Wagner lying on his kitchen floor, smothered by a pillow.

To comfort her frightened and grieving neighbors, Winnie comes to the rescue with her baked goods—and an idea is born: dessert delivery via her ambulance and a new business called the Emergency Dessert Squad. When she’s not speeding to the scenes of dessert emergencies, Winnie is also racing to track down Bart’s killer—before she needs to call a real ambulance for the next victim...
