BOOK TOUR

I'm so happy to be a stop on the
blog tour for author
Tonya Kappes
and her new book
A GHOSTLY MORTALITY
Book 6 in the Ghostly Southern Mysteries

That ghost sure looks . . . familiar
Only a handful of people know that Emma Lee Raines, proprietor of a small-town Kentucky funeral home, is a “Betweener.” She helps ghosts stuck between here and the ever-after—murdered ghosts. Once Emma Lee gets them justice they can cross over to the great beyond.
But Emma Lee’s own sister refuses to believe in her special ability. In fact, the Raines sisters have barely gotten along since Charlotte Rae left the family business for the competition. After a doozy of an argument, Emma Lee is relieved to see Charlotte Rae back home to make nice. Until she realizes her usually snorting, sarcastic, family-ditching sister is a . . . ghost.
Charlotte Rae has no earthly idea who murdered her or why. With her heart in tatters, Emma Lee relies more than ever on her sexy beau, Sheriff Jack Henry Ross…because this time, catching a killer means the Raines sisters will have to make peace with each other first.

An Interview With
 Tonya Kappes

LKBR:  Thank you for being here today!

TK: Thank you for having me!

LKBR: Please tell us a bit about your Ghostly Southern Mystery Series.

TK: Emma Lee Raines is an undertaker who sees the ghosts of people she’s stuck six feet under only their death looked like an accident when they were really murdered and Emma Lee has to help them get to the other side by solving their murder.

LKBR: How did you come up with the concept for the Ghostly Southern
Mystery Series?

TK: There are only so many cozy sleuth’s occupations out there and I wanted something with a different concept. No one had an undertaker sleuth and I thought it would be funny to have ghosts help in the sleuthing.

LKBR: Do you have a favorite character in your book/series?

TK: I’m a little partial to Emma Lee because she fun, serious, loves her family, and wants to help people.

LKBR: Is there a certain type of scene that’s harder for you to write than others? Love, action, death, ect?

TK: Emma Lee dates the sheriff and in a cozy mystery the romance takes a back seat to plot and the secondary plot. So it’s hard to not write a big love scene for them when it’s got to be behind the scene.

LKBR: In your writing, have you ever used experiences based on someone you know, or events in your own life?

TK: In my Kenni Lowry Mystery Series, the entire series is based on my hometown of Nicholasville, Kentucky. If you open up the book, you will feel like your smack dab in my hometown.

LKBR: When you’re in the process of writing/creating a book, do you use a computer, typewriter, dictate, or use pen to paper?
TK: I write on my laptop as well as keep a pen/paper next to me at all times.

LKBR: Do you have any writing quirks or rituals that you do before, during, and/or after writing a new book?

TK: No. It’s a job and I treat it as such. I get up, get ready and go into my office for a day of work.

LKBR: What does your family think about your writing? How important is their support?

TK: I couldn’t do it without the support of my family. When I started writing my kids (four boys) were small and my husband did a wonderful job helping me get them to and from practices as well as cleaning and cooking. Now they are 24,19,19, and 17 so they are practically grown.

LKBR: Who inspired you to write your first book?

TK: My husband.

LKBR: What was one of the most surprising thing you learned when trying to get your first book published?

TK: Just exactly how hard it really is….man-o-man…thick skin!

LKBR: What book are you reading?

TK: I’m currently reading Lynn Cahoon’s Story To Kill for my book club.

LKBR: Do you have any advice for aspiring cozy writers?

TK: Write, write, write, write, write, write….write!

LKBR: Where can readers go to learn more about you and your books?

TK: Visit me at Tonyakappes.com where you can find many southern recipes, contests as well as sign up for my newsletter.
