BOOK TOUR

I'm so excited to be a stop on the blog tour for
SIFTING THROUGH THE CLUES
Book 8 in the Cookbook Nook Mysteries
by Daryl Wood Gerber

The Agatha Award–winning author of Wreath Between the Lines returns to the Cookbook Nook, where culinary mysteries are giving everyone food for thought . . .

Book clubs from all over have descended on Crystal Cove to celebrate the library’s Book Club Bonanza week, and Jenna Hart has packed the Cookbook Nook with juicy reads and tasty cookbooks. But she’s most excited about spending an evening with the Mystery Mavens and their moveable feast, when they will go from house to house to share different culinary treats and discuss the whodunit they’re all reading. It’s all good food and fun for the savvy armchair detectives, until one of the members of the group is found murdered at the last stop on the tour.

As if that weren’t enough to spoil her appetite, Jenna discovers that all the evidence points to her friend Pepper as being the guilty party. And with Pepper’s chief-of-police daughter too close to the case to be impartial, Jenna knows she’ll have to step in to help clear her friend’s name before a bitter injustice sends her to jail. Sifting through the clues, Jenna unearths any number of possible culprits, but she’ll have to cook up a new way to catch the killer before Pepper’s goose is cooked . . .

Includes tasty sweet and savory recipes!

Available April 23!

MY REVIEW

A cozy mystery about a cookbook store, written by Daryl Wood Gerber? Come on, you know I read this series! And I was beyond thrilled to read this latest installment!

I have loved everything about the Cookbook Nook Mysteries since book one, page one. I fell in love with each character the moment they appeared on the pages. I always look forward to what they’re up to next. I also love every new theme author Daryl Wood Gerber introduces in to each volume. I wish our Mayor would come up with some of these ideas! This time it’s Book Club Bonanza. Fun! Oh yeah, and deadly! I wish our Mayor would come up with some of these ideas!

There’s soooo much I want to say about SIFTING THROUGH THE CLUES. A lot of which I can’t because of spoilers. What I can say is, this is the best in the series so far! This book had me glued to my chair. A compelling, exciting mystery, there were times I was holding my breath. Author Gerber did such a great job keeping me guessing, I had to force myself not to peek at the ending! There were also times I was laughing so hard I was crying.

I thoroughly enjoyed this book from cover to cover. SIFTING THROUGH THE CLUES in one word? FABULOUS!

SIFTING THROUGH THE CLUES

SAVORY CHEDDAR SCONE

In Sifting Through Clues, during Book Club Bonanza week, Jenna features “tea” type foods at the Cookbook Nook and in the Nook Café. What book club doesn’t enjoy a good tea? One of my favorite things when I serve tea is to include sweet and savory items. There are lots of sweet recipes in the book. This savory recipe is in there, too.

These little scones are so easy to make. And so tasty. The white pepper gives them a real zing. They’re a perfect addition to any tea or breakfast. By the way, if you don’t have buttermilk on hand, you can use 2/3 cup milk, less one tablespoon plus 1 tablespoon vinegar. Let the mixture stand for about five minutes.

Enjoy.

Savory Cheddar Scone
(Makes 8)

Ingredients

2 1/2 cups flour
2 tablespoons granulated sugar
1 tablespoon baking powder
1 teaspoon salt
1/4 teaspoon white pepper
1/2 cup butter, cut into small pieces
3 large eggs, divided (2 for recipe, one for egg wash)
2/3 cup buttermilk
2/3 cup sharp cheddar cheese, grated
1/4 cup chopped chives

Directions

Preheat oven to 375 degrees.

In a large bowl or food processor, whisk together the flour, sugar, baking powder, salt, and white pepper. Cut in the butter.  The mixture should be the size of peas.

In a small bowl, whisk 2 eggs with the buttermilk.  Add to the flour mixture and stir until just combined.

Stir in the cheddar and chives.

Turn the dough—it will be sticky—onto a well-floured board. Knead gently. Divide the dough and roll each into a circle about 3/4-inch thick. Cut each circle into 4 triangles.

In a small bowl, whisk the remaining egg. Brush the egg on top of the scones.

Bake for 20 minutes until golden. Remove from oven and serve warm.

Lisa's Note: I can't wait to try these!
I'm thinking of doing them to take to my brothers' house for Easter dinner!

My Book Beginnings

"Ow, ow, ow!" Bailey hopped on one foot. I feared if she bounced any more she would drop the baby then and there. She was five weeks from her due date, but the way her belly was pressing against her denim jumper made me think the baby might pop out any second.

My 56

Forcing myself to remain calm, I strode ahead of her.

    First line -
The knife had pierced Seth Halloran’s heart, exactly at the spot that would stop it cold. Poor guy would’ve dropped right where he stood.

    My 56 –
With a yelp, I slammed my door shut and threw the deadbolt.
