BOOK TOUR

I am thrilled to be a stop on the blog tour for
GONE BY MIDNIGHT
AND OTHER STORIES
by authors Joyce and Jim Lavene!

Fans of Joyce and Jim Lavene will thrill at this collection of thirteen short stories—many are set in the worlds of their national bestselling mystery series, including the Missing Pieces Mysteries, the Renaissance Faire Mysteries, the Retired Witches Mysteries, and an upcoming mystery novel! These stories contain the elements of mystery and fantasy the Lavenes are famous for, as well as some new things their readers have never seen.

Several stories feature characters interacting with ghosts, magic, and the supernatural—the healing woman in “Courtship;” the Civil War widow in “One with the Darkness;” the city girl who summons a wizard from the past in “The Magician and the Sorceress/Accountant;” and the young introvert in “Aunt Edna” who finds her calling with help from a ghostly visitor.

Poignant, charming, and captivating, Joyce and Jim Lavene bring their characteristic wit and heart to these stories and introduce each one with a passage about its origin or how it ties into the universe they’ve created. Gone by Midnight is a treasury of tales that will delight the mind and touch the heart from one of the most prolific writing duos of our time.

MY REVIEW

The best compilation of short stories I have ever read!

GONE BY MIDNIGHT AND OTHER STORIES, is everything you love about the writing of Joyce and Jim Lavene!. I mean really, if anything is better than one book by the Lavene's, it a book full of stories by them!

The short stories included are . . Aunt Edna, Inn of May Pleasures, Ghost Dance, Assassin!, The Courtship, The Singing Tress of Jappa, The Magician and the Sorceress-Accountant, Fargan Rum, One With The Darkness, Cold Karma, Alice in Renaissance Were-land, Gone by Midnight, and Spirit Warrior.

Every story is written with the same wit, mystery, para-normal flare, and absolute brilliant writing, and imagination that have made the Lavene's two of the best writers of this generation.

If you haven't read anything by Joyce and Jim Lavene, this short story collection will give you a magnificent sampling of what these authors are all about. If you are already a fan of the Lavene's, you'll be thrilled to see some of your favorite characters from other series by these authors.

I just know you will be as enamored with this book as I am.

I'm going to do a separate review of each amazing story in GONE BY MIDNIGHT AND OTHER STORIES, and will post them to the blog at a later date.

My Book Beginnings...
(Story One...Aunt Edna)

There wasn't ever a time Aunt Edna didn't have a piece of pie for you to eat while you were at her home, usually on the front porch swing, and a pie to take with you. She was an obsessive baker. Even after Uncle Charlie died, she still made those pies that had won blue ribbons for forty years. You could smell the aroma of them drifting down the beach. They were a constant, like the shush-shush of the tide and the breathtaking sunset.

Her kinfolk came and took her to a home for her own good when she was close to one hundred. They figured her gnarled old hands had turned enough crust and sliced enough apples. She argued and lamented, but in the end, it became a fact.

The old clapboard house that had needed a coat of paint for twenty years stood empty until her death.

My Friday 56...
(Story Seven...56% of
THE MAGICIAN and the
SORCERESS-ACCOUNTANT)

"I shall not be made to help thee, sorceress-accountant!"

She stood up. Well, then I guess you'll be here for a while. There's a comfortable chair. There's fruit. I can throw you a magazine if you like."

"I shall not be your prisoner, woman My wrath will be the death of you!"

Lacie gulped. She could feel the waves of power coming from him, even though the pentagram held him in check.

  11. Hi Lisa,

I have to say that this book is far outside of my usual reading genres, however I loved both the excerpts which you shared this week, especially 'Aunt Edna'.

Perhaps a collection of short stories is the way to go in starting to explore the genre and the Lavene's sound like great authors to start me off.

I would have loved to enter the giveaway, however as the gift certificate was in $USD, I am assuming that it isn't open internationally .... Oh Well! Next time perhaps :)

    Yvonne.
