BOOK TOUR

I'm honored to be a stop on the blog tour for
PURLS BEFORE SWINE
Book 3 in the Clear Creek Mysteries
by
Rebecca McKinnon

Autumn has arrived in the Rocky Mountains. The resort that was almost the death of the small town of Clear Creek is trying to mend relations by hosting a local artisan show.

Jemma has been asked to create a display showing beginner projects all the way up to expert. Hoping to knit up attention for the shops in Clear Creek, she agrees. The last thing she expects is to trip over a body in the middle of the exhibits.

Curiosity piqued, she wants to know how someone was killed under the watchful eyes of the resort’s security staff — headed by the man she loves.

Even though her past experiences have taught Jemma she doesn’t want to be anywhere near a killer, when Deputy Chase surprises everyone by asking for her help she can’t bring herself to say no. Because if the killer isn’t bound off before the resort guests leave, someone will get away with murder.

LKBR: Hi, Rebecca. Thank you for being with us today!

Rebecca: I’m so excited to be here!

LKBR: Please tell us about your newest book.

Rebecca: Purls Before Swine is the third book in the Clear Creek Mysteries. Like the other books in the series, it can be read as a standalone. In this one, Jemma’s been asked to create a display for a local artisan show detailing her journey to becoming an expert knitter after inheriting her grandmother’s yarn store. The exhibits include a bunch of things you’d expect, but the dead body Jemma stumbles across wasn’t on the list.

LKBR: Readers always have a favorite character. Do you have a favorite from this book?

Rebecca: I love these characters, and my favorite kind of depends on my mood. If I have to choose, I think I’d say Granny. I want to be like her when I grow up!

LKBR: Once you’re finished writing a book, how long is it before you start writing the next?

Rebecca: That’s a tricky question. It depends on how you define writing, I guess. I usually have several things in the works, even if they’re only in the planning and daydreaming phases. I consider all the phases writing, because they have to be done to have the final story. If you mean putting words on the page, it can be anywhere from a few days to a few weeks.

LKBR: What is your favorite part of writing? Your least favorite part?

Rebecca: I love getting to play with my imaginary friends all day! That’s definitely my favorite part. My least favorite parts are that it takes so long to get enough words on the page, and that sometimes making the written story resemble the tale in my head is like trying to re-create the Mona Lisa with fingerpaints.

LKBR: Where do you do your best writing?

Rebecca: I write in a lot of different places. I have an office in our home, which is amazing. I also love to stretch out on the couch while I write. But I’m probably most productive when I’m sitting in the car waiting to pick up my kids from school or activities.

LKBR: What are the different ways you research for your books?

Rebecca: For my cozy mysteries, I do a lot of suspicious-looking Google searches. For one book I wrote, a time travel romance, I had to do a lot of research about medieval Ireland. For that one, I found an expert who was willing to help me with information that wasn’t online.

LKBR: Have you ever started writing a story just to find the idea simply isn’t working?

Rebecca: So many times! I’m getting better at knowing if an idea will work before I get too far into a project.

LKBR: Any new projects in the works?

Rebecca: I’ve been spending time on the next book in the Clear Creek Mysteries, as well as playing with a project I can’t talk too much about just yet. I can tell you it’s got me super excited!

LKBR: What do you love to do in your free time? LOL Do you get much free time?

Rebecca: I read a lot of books and play D&D with my family. I’m also training in jiu jitsu, which I’ve discovered I’m surprisingly okay at, especially considering my clumsiness.

LKBR: Where can readers go to learn more about you and your books?

Rebecca: All my books are on my website, www.rebeccamckinnon.com

LKBR: Thank you so much, Rebecca for letting us get to know you better!

Rebecca: Thank you so much for having me!
