BEST OF THE BEST
The Best Recipes from the
25 Best Cookbooks of the year
Edited by Dana Cowin
editor in chief, FOOD & WINE magazine

Every year, the Food & Wine Test Kitchen evaluates over 150 cookbooks to select the twenty-five best recipes. These are those award-winners. This year's Best of the Best collection celebrates these winning dishes from superstar authors such as Giada DeLaurentiis, Jamie Oliver, Alice Waters, and Eric Ripert. Bonus--a never-before-published recipe from each author plus great advice on accessible wine pairings. The wide variety of dishes includes Crispy Fired Salt-and-Pepper Shrimp, Roast Chicken with Ricotta and Sage, Brisket in Sweet-and-Sour Sauce, and more. These are the kinds of superstar chef recipes that any cook would love to make, and they can.

MY REVIEWS

I am thrilled to have added this cookbook to my collection! It has something for all tastes, be they sweet, savory, or something a little different.

With 279 fabulous pages, this stunning hardcover edition is the perfect book for your kitchen collection, or as a coffee table book for guests to peruse. There are brilliant full color photos of both the food, and the chefs included in this recipe tome. Not a photo for every recipe, which I personally prefer, but more than I am seeing in most cookbooks.

BEST OF THE BEST contains just some of the recipes from 25 best cookbooks chosen by FOOD & WINE MAGAZINE. Truly a great sampler of books that you may have been looking into purchasing, but not sure you wanted to commit. Now you can have a little of each of the following titles . . . IN MY KITCHEN by Ted Allen, THE BACK IN THE DAY BAKERY by Cheryl & Griffith Day, MIKE ISABELLA’S CRAZY GOOD ITALIAN by Mike Isabella, EMERIL’S KICKED UP SANDWICHES by Emeril Lagasse, THE SMITTEN KITCHEN COOKBOOK by Deb Perelman, VINTAGE CAKES by Julie Richardson, MICHAEL SYMON’S CARNIVORE by Michael Symon, SIMPLY MING IN YOUR KITCHEN by Ming Tsai & Arthur Boehm, MAC & CHEESE, PLEASE! By Laura Werlin, and more!

You find recipes such as . . . Scampi Skewers with Lemon Zucchini, Tomato & Almond Tarts, Spaghetti with Cockles, Nacho Mac & Cheese, Braised Scallops, Pancetta & Peas, Spicy Sriracha Chicken Wings, Hungarian Goulash, Spareribs with Italian Plum Glaze, Carnitas (Slow-Cooked Pork) Tacos, Salt-Messaged Cucumber with Miso & Sesame, Roasted Cauliflower & Hazelnut Salad, Pumpkin Cream Scones, Sunny Lemon Bars, Shortbread, Grapefruit Tea Cakes, and that’s just a small taste of the recipes included.

I think cookbook/recipe collectors with be very happy with this lovely book. This title is labeled Vol. 16. I’m going to be on the lookout for past and future volumes for sure!

NOTE: My book says it is Vol 16, however, the description doesn’t match what I found on Amazon. They have Vol 16 listed with a different cover, but with the blurb for this book. This book is listed with no volume number, and the wrong blurb.

  2. I used to read cookbooks from cover to cover years ago. What I am always hoping to find is a recipe for cooked white fudge which was around in the 40's and 50's. White sugar fudge not white chocolate. My grandmother used to make it and she never ysed a candy thermometer just cold water testing so sometimes it was not as smooth as others but it had a unique flavor. Just trying to recreate it if anyone has an old recipe.
Thank you. Glad you are enjoying this cook book day as I have been glad you are doing it, Lisa.
