First Crime Spree In Three Years
By Edna Easterly
June 14. 2016 – Cottonwood, Kentucky
There hasn’t been a crime in Cottonwood, Kentucky since Sheriff Kendrick Lowry was elected three years ago. That streak ended this morning around seven a.m. after Toots Buford, receptionist for Doctor Ronald Walton, and found the beloved, small town doctor dead, lying face down in a pool of his own blood.
“Toots Buford found him this morning when she got to work and immediately called 911,” Dispatcher Betty Murphy said, referring to Doctor’s receptionist. “Shortly after she called, Polly Parker called to report a jewelry heist over at White’s Jewelry.”
“I don’t know what’s going on.” Ms. Kim, owner of Kim’s Buffet, responded after she was seen being interviewed by Sheriff Lowry. “She come in here with Chinese symbol. Family symbol I told her. Now go.”
Sheriff Lowry wasn’t available for comment when we called to confirm she was trying to tie the two crimes together. Instead we were transferred to Finn Vincent of the Kentucky Reserve Police. Mr. Vincent was sent to Cottonwood to aid in the investigations since the Cottonwood Sheriff’s Department hasn’t appointed an interim deputy since Lonnie Lemar retired last month.
According to Betty Murphy, the town festival is still on as planned despite a murderer on the loose.

Please note that the movie was picked
weeks before Doc Walton was found dead in his house so the coincidence is just
that.

Local Business Spotlight:
On The Run Food Truck
On The Run Food Truck, which opened over a year ago, is
doing a booming business in Cottonwood. Lulu McClain, owner of Lulu’s Boutique,
“Jolee Fischer’s food truck is a genius. She makes the best Kentucky Hot
Browns. Delicious!”
We asked Jolee why she thought her food truck has taken off,
literally, “I am able to drive to different locations and go to them. People
don’t have to worry about going into a restaurant, waiting to be waited on.
Take Lulu’s Boutique. I’m there every Monday morning. I park the truck on the
curb and Lulu opens the back of her boutique where she does her craft classes
for the morning customers who do want to grab some good home cooked breakfast
food and sit down to eat. Or you can grab your breakfast from the truck and go.
I even go to Luke Jone’s movie night with movie fare food. It’s different and
fun.”
On The Run Food Truck is a must if you haven’t tried it. For
a list of places Jolee will be parking the truck, check the On The Run Food
Truck website at ontherunfoodtruck.com.

To learn more about the cozy town of Cottonwood and it's residents, read the
Kenni Lowry Mysteries by author
Tonya Kappes!
Kenni Lowry likes to think
the zero crime rate in Cottonwood,
Kentucky is due to her being sheriff, but she quickly discovers the ghost of
her grandfather, the town’s previous sheriff, has been scaring off any would-be
criminals since she was elected. When the town’s most beloved doctor is found
murdered on the very same day as a jewelry store robbery, and a mysterious
symbol ties the crime scenes together, Kenni must satisfy her hankerin’ for
justice by nabbing the culprits.
With the help of her Poppa, a lone
deputy, and an annoyingly cute, too-big-for-his-britches State Reserve officer,
Kenni must solve both cases and prove to the whole town, and herself, that
she’s worth her salt before time runs out.

About the author
Tonya has written over 20 novels and 4 novellas, all of which have
graced numerous bestseller lists including USA Today. Best known for
stories charged with emotion and humor, and filled with flawed characters, her
novels have garnered reader praise and glowing critical reviews. She lives with
her husband, three teenage boys, two very spoiled schnauzers, and one ex-stray
cat in Kentucky.
Thanks for another great edition. As usual, it was quite informative. I loved this book and can't wait for more in the series.
