It's
Cozy Food Friday!

That means it's time to share a recipe from
another great cozy mystery!

Today I'm featuring a recipe from the cozy mystery
FLOURLESS TO STOP HIM
Book 3 in the Baker's Treat Mystery series
by
Nancy J. Parra

The author of Murder Gone A-Rye and Gluten for Punishment returns to Oiltop, Kansas, where gluten-free baker Toni Holmes has to separate the wheat from the chaff to clear her brother of murder…

It’s never a good time for a crisis. Toni’s busy whipping up gluten-free holiday treats when a murder forces her to put baking on the back burner. A dead man has been found in the bathtub of a local inn—in a room registered to her brother, Tim.

With her sibling now a prime suspect in a mysterious homicide, Toni is determined to find out who set him up. But she’s about to get some unwanted assistance from former investigative journalist Grandma Ruth, who won’t let anything slow her progress in running down a killer.

MY REVIEW

FLOURLESS TO STOP HIM is a delectable addition to the Baker’s Treat Mystery series.

This book had me with the first three sentences . . . I love my family. I do. But there are times when I sincerely wish they would take a day off . . . Ha! I know that feeling well! But I do love the concept of a home where extended family members are free to come and go. That they will always have a roof over their heads.

The cast of characters are every bit as much a treat as the delicious recipes that are included. I think anyone would have a hard time not loving lead character Toni’s Grandma Ruth, the ninety something ex-investigative reporter, lifelong member of Mensa. And Grandma Ruth is in great form in this installment!

This was a real page turner of a mystery that kept me reading past my bedtime. I just had to know whodunit, and once I did, I couldn’t believe it!

I also love that in today’s world, with more and more people developing food allergies, author Nancy J. Parra had the idea to do a gluten free bakery. The fact that it is set in the middle of wheat country . . . priceless. As I mentioned above, there are wonderful recipes, gluten free, included in the book.

I look forward to the next book in the Baker’s Treat Mystery series. Ms. Parra has a real job on her hands topping this one!

Today's recipe

GLUTEN-FREE CHICKEN SALAD PUFFS

Ingredients

1 cup water
1/2 cup butter
1/8 teaspoon salt
1 cup tapioca flour
4 eggs
1/4 cup red onion, chopped
1 stalk celery, chopped
1 tablespoon raisins
2 teaspoons Dijon mustard
1/3 cup mayonnaise
1/4 cup plain yogurt
1/2 teaspoon salt
1/4 teaspoon dill
(Lisa's note: Prepare chicken however you normally would for chicken salad. A rotisserie chicken from your local market is great for chicken salad!)

Directions

Preheat an oven to 400 degrees F (200 degrees C).

Grease a baking sheet.

Combine the water and butter with 1/8 teaspoon salt in a saucepan. Bring water to a boil over medium-high heat. Once boiling, reduce heat to medium, and pour in the flour all at once. Stir vigorously until the mixture forms a semi-translucent ball.

Remove from heat and allow to cool for 10 minutes.

Mix in the eggs into the dough, one at a time, adding the next egg only after the first has been completely incorporated.

Drop the dough onto the prepared baking sheet by the heaping tablespoon.

Bake in the preheated oven until puffed and golden brown, 30 to 35 minutes. The puff's should be hollow on the inside, and just browned on the bottom.

Remove from the oven, and cool to room temperature on a wire rack.

To prepare the filling. stir together the onion, celery, raisins, mustard, mayonnaise, yogurt, 1/2 teaspoon salt, and dill in a bowl until combined. Fold in chopped chicken meat until evenly combined.

Cut the tops from the puffs and spoon the chicken filling inside.

Replace tops before serving.

Your dish may vary in appearance.

Wouldn't these be wonderful for a tea party
 or shower?

THE DIVA STEALS A CHOCOLATE KISS
Book 9 in the Domestic Diva Mystery series
by Krista Davis

The New York Times bestselling author of The Diva Wraps It Up unwraps an all-new tale in which chocolate is the kiss of death…

Domestic Diva Sophie Winston is in charge of the sweetest event in Old Town this summer. Amore Chocolates is celebrating its fiftieth anniversary with a chocolate tasting at the mansion of the company’s CEO, Joe Merano—and Sophie is running the show. With cookies, candy, and five kinds of chocolate cake, it’s a chocolate lover’s dream! But when Joe goes missing, the celebration becomes bittersweet. And when Sophie discovers the body of a competing chocolatier in the guesthouse, the event turns downright deadly.

As if that wasn’t enough, Sophie’s been receiving daily boxes of sweet treats. After ruling out her new beau and her exes, Sophie wonders if someone’s trying to send her a message—and if she’s next on a chocoholic’s hit list…

Includes delicious recipes and entertaining tips!

My Book Beginnings...

Dear Sophie,

My mother-in-law gave me a box of chocolates that she made herself. They've turned gray! I think she's trying to poison me. My husband insists they're fine but I don't believe him. What if they're in cahoots? Is it normal for chocolate to turn gray?

-Suspicious in Graysville, Tennessee

Dear Suspicious,

It's so common that it has a name. The powdery gray on your chocolates is called a bloom. It's caused by moisture and often happens when chocolates are stored in the refrigerator. Chocolates with a bloom are perfectly fine to eat but not very attractive.
