What's Cooking?

Sweet lovin' from the oven.

🍽🍽🍽🍽🍽🍽🍽

This cookbook first got my attention because I'm a fan of the actress. But the more I read about it, I had more reasons for wanting it.
Take a look.

The heartwarming story of how NCIS star Pauley Perrette and her two best friends created a Southern-style bake shop in Manhattan—a celebration of love and friendship with gorgeous photographs and delicious recipes.

Nestled in the heart of midtown New York is a little shop with a big story. An all-natural bake shop that specializes in Southern baked goods, Donna Bell’s is owned by Pauley Perrette, the actress who plays Abby Sciuto on CBS’s NCIS, and her two best friends, Darren Greenblatt and Matthew Sandusky. It was named in honor of Pauley’s late mother, who is the beloved inspiration for everything they bake.

It all started in 1993, when Pauley met Darren in New York City’s Hell’s Kitchen, just blocks away from where the shop is currently located. The two became inseparable friends and Pauley’s Southern mom would welcome Darren to their home with mouthwatering treats. Darren loved this food and soon left his successful career in fashion to open a food truck that sold Southern desserts at the Jersey Shore. Eventually he wanted to expand and turned to Pauley and their friend Matthew—who worked in the Los Angeles food industry—for help. Soon Matthew was on his way to New York to open Donna Bell’s Bake Shop with Pauley and Darren.

With recipes for favorites like buttermilk biscuits, chocolate chip-almond scones, and peach streusel muffins; personal photographs from Pauley, Darren, Matthew, and Donna Bell herself; this is the story how one fantastic bake shop brings warmth and happiness—one treat at a time—to the urban jungle that is New York City.

MY REVIEW

DONNA BELL’S BAKE SHOP made me smile the entire time I was reading it, and I’m smiling still as I write this review.

DONNA BELL’S BAKE SHOP contains recipes from the bakery of the same name located it NYC. The bakery was inspired by C0-author/co-owner Pauley Perrette’s (Best know as Abby on NCIS) mother, Donna Bell. An amazing tribute to who must have been a wonderful woman, loving mother, and southern charmer. Honestly, this is one of the most delightful and heartwarming cookbooks I have ever read. But it’s not just a book full of recipes. It’s a book full of love, friendship, memories, and recipes.

This inspiring book is broken down into four parts . . . Where We Come From, A Big Idea, Opening the Shop, and Friends and Family Make it Work. Each part/chapter is not only packed with amazing recipes that will make your mouth water, and your tummy rumble, they’re filled with stories. Interspersed though-out the book, mixed in with the recipes, you never know which author will be next with sharing a memory. This very much gave me the feeling of being surrounded by these three friends, listening to their sweet remembrances first hand, and smelling the delicious aromas of their delectable creations.

Just a small sampling of recipes included in DONNA BELL’S BAKE SHOP are . . . Bacon Blue Cheese Parsley Biscuits, Blueberry-Filled Sweet Biscuits with Vanilla Sauce, Strawberry Scones with Lemon Glazes, Cinnamon Scones with Maple Glaze, Chocolate Chip Walnut Coffee Muffins, Peach Muffin Streusel, Hummingbird Bread Pudding with Cream Cheese Glaze, Turtle Cupcakes, and Butter Pecan Cake with Buttercream Frosting.

I’m looking forward to baking my way through DONNA BELL’S BAKERY But first, I’m going to read it again!

DONNA BELL'S BAKE SHOP is available at Barnes & Noble online, and Amazon. But I purchased mine from the Book Outlet online for a much better price. They still have over 100 copies available. It's only $8.59 for this $24.99 hardcover! Sometimes they even have sales on their already discounted prices!
I have suggested the Book Outlet, and included a link simply because I want to see those who read my blog to get a great book at the best price. I'm not affiliated with them in any way.
