"Spring has sprung the grass has rize, I wonder where the birdez is?"- something my mom used to say in the spring..
Did you know it is national poetry month? Along with a few other things I am passionate about such as Autism Awareness Month, Parkinson's Awareness Month , and Irritable Bowel Syndrome Awareness month just to name a few. I wanted to pop in and share a few things today with all of you.
I am taking over today as a surprise to my friend Lisa, and because I miss writing a daily blog. I also miss reading cozy mysteries, which is something that I used to do daily, however it has been a long while since I have been able to fall into a book that is not assigned to the grade 6 students or the grade 2 students I am working with. If you are looking for a fun read for a young reader, I have been loving Guinea Dog series by Patrick Jennings, I believe there are 4 books in this series and I am enjoying it.New on my table this week was the Dog Man book Twenty Thousand Fleas Under the Sea, which if you know author Dav Pilkey from the Captain Underpant series, you know he has magic licence with his Dog Man and Cat Kid Series, I bought two of these books on release day for not only my 15 year old son to read (in under an hour, he is a reformed reluctant reader) and then for the two classes that I work in. The glee and delight on the faces of these once reluctant readers to have the latest book in their hands was something I will always remember! I did photograph and share with their parents but cant share here with you, I can say though it was similar to the looks the kids used to give me Christmas morning. Now that they are older it is more like Christmas Afternoon, which is 265 days as of this post until, and yes I am keeping track.
March 24th I received my order from Sea Siren's Charms, a small shop here in Canada but on the opposite side of where I live. Triqueta is a collection of poems that resonated with me and even one I want to have read at my celebration of life hopefully many many many moons from now...
See These Things By Cecilia Bryden Laing
Take a look for me at the blues skies,
At the sun, sparkling like diamonds on the bay.
Take it all in and hold it for me.
For I am starving in my heart for the sight,
My mind is tired, and my eyes are weary, of seeing people, and mad-made things of the city.
My ears ache from the sound of a hundred voices. How I wish they were the voices of the birds in the trees.
Look at these things, and think of me. Listen for my thank you in the whisper of the breeze.
This is just one of the amazing poems I found in the book, that resonated with my soul. Hoping you can take some time out of your day to enjoy the things that bring you joy, that make you happy.
Thanks for letting me pop in. Hope to share more with you again soon.
Happy Tuesday. Good to see you again. Smiles and hugs from me to you
ReplyDeleteHey Karen! I love it when you take over! Great post!
ReplyDeleteThat’s a great poem. Maybe you should do a post once a week on Lisa’s blog?

Pat! You're a mind reader! I just asked Karen if she would post once a week, or every other. I loved her blog. I'd be thrilled to have her have a regular post here.
DeleteSounds like a plan, Lisa!
