CAUGHT READ-HANDED
From the national bestselling author of Well Read, Then Dead comes the second mystery featuring Sassy Cabot and Bridgy Mayfield, who bring Fort Myers Beach, Florida, residents plenty of sinful treats and killer reads at their bookstore café, Read ’Em and Eat.
Happy to help her fellow bibliophiles, Sassy visits the local library with book donations for their annual fundraising sale. Unfortunately, the welcoming readers’ haven is in turmoil as an argument erupts between an ornery patron and new staff member, Tanya Lipscombe—also known as “Tanya Trouble.” She may lack people skills, but everyone is shocked when she’s later found murdered in her own hot tub.The man last seen arguing with Tanya is soon arrested. But Alan Mersky, a veteran with PTSD, happens to be the brother of Sassy’s former boss—and he’s no murderer. Now it’s up to Sassy and Bridgy to clear Alan’s name and make sure the real killer gets booked.
Includes a recipe for Miss Marple scones!

And now a word from

It is terrific to be back here at Lisa K’s Book
Reviews to talk about Caught Read-Handed,
the latest cozy novel in the Read ’Em and Eat series. It wasn’t that long ago
we were talking about Well Read, Then
Dead and I had a roaring good time. After all, what’s more fun than reading
cozy mysteries?
Not a thing.
Oh wait! Reading and a snack. Now that’s major fun, the
kind of fun that has me hankering to spend some time at the Read ’Em and Eat
Café and Bookstore. Plenty of fabulous books to feed the mind and spirit along
with all sorts of delicious meals and snacks to feed the body. Owners Sassy
Cabot, sometimes called the book maven, and her BFF Bridgy Mayfield, who loves
all things kitchen related, are bubbly, friendly Brooklyn girls who have
uprooted their lives and moved south settling on Fort Myers Beach, where mile
after mile of sugar-fine sand edges the glistening water of the Gulf of Mexico.
For a new patron, stepping inside the Read ’Em and
Eat for the very first time is always a delight. Two walls are lined with book
shelves. The colorful spines and covers of the books all calling for attention.
Fiction, non-fiction, and a particularly imaginative children’s book section
fill the shelves to bursting.
And what is that tantalizing fragrance? Miss
Marple’s Orange Iced Scones! Chef Miguel Guerra has just taken a batch of out
of the oven. Now I have to mention that if you are visiting Lisa today, you
probably know her friend Karen Owen, tea and cozy enthusiast. I am honored to
tell you that Karen developed the recipe you will find in the back of the book
for Miss Marple’s Orange Iced Scones. Oh so delicious.
It is amazing that something as gruesome as murder
could impact such a lovely place, but it has happened—and not for the first
time.
A library volunteer that Sassy has seen but never
met is killed, right in her own hot tub. Behind her back some folks have called
the woman “Tanya Trouble”. With a nickname like that you would think there
would be a long line of suspects, but no. The Lee County Sheriff’s Department
has zeroed in on an Army veteran who happens to be the brother of Sassy’s old
boss from the Brooklyn days. Naturally, Sassy is drawn to help.
Sounds intriguing, right? Come along. Sassy, and
Bridgy invite you back to the Read ’Em and Eat for a glass of sweet tea and a
stunning view of the sun setting over the Gulf of Mexico. What could be more
enchanting, even with murder in the mix?
Thank you so much, Terrie!

MY REVIEW
The first book in this series, WELL READ, THEN DEAD, was one
of my top three favorite first books in a new series in 2014. I devoured it.
So, to say I have been looking forward to CAUGHT READ-HANDED, well, that
doesn’t even come close to how much I’ve wanted to read this book. I have to
say . . . it was worth the wait!
Author Terrie Farley Moran has done it again in the second
installment of her Read ‘Em And Eat Mystery series. She has taken her gift of
amazing story telling and lifted it to a whole new level. The murder mystery in
this story was so well plotted, every page bringing clues and misleads. Ms.
Moran kept the story fast moving and intriguing, make this book very hard to
put down for any length of time. When the reveal came toward the end of the story,
it was a real surprise. I never saw it coming!
I really did love my trip back to Fort Myers Beach, FL, and
the time I spent at the Read ‘Em And Eat café with Sassy, Bridgy, Aunt Ophey,
and the cast of supporting characters. Like my last visit, it was over far too
soon, and I found myself back in the real world of DE looking forward to my
next visit.
In the pages of this book, with every word, through every
character, I could feel the author’s love for her series. Knowing that this
story was penned with such care, made reading it even more enjoyable. Well done
Ms. Moran. Brava!
Make sure to check out the back of the book for the yummy
recipe for Miss Marple’s Orange Ice Scones by Karen Owen, and featured in
CAUGHT READ-HANDED.
