My pick for favorite cozy with a
Yard/Garage Sale / Vintage Finds theme is
TAGGED TO DEATH
#1 in the Sarah Winston Garage Sale Mysteries
by Sherry Harris

Starting your life over at age thirty-eight isn't easy, but that's what Sarah Winston finds herself facing when her husband CJ runs off with a 19-year-old temptress named Tiffany. Sarah's self-prescribed therapy happily involves hitting all the garage and tag sales in and around her small town of Ellington, Massachusetts. If only she could turn her love for bargain hunting into a full-time career.

One man's junk is another man's treasure

But after returning from a particularly successful day searching for yard sale treasures, Sarah finds a grisly surprise in one of her bags: a freshly bloodied shirt. . .that undoubtedly belongs to her ex, CJ, who now happens to be Ellington's chief of police. If that's not bad enough, it seems Tiffany has gone missing. Now it's up to Sarah to prove that her cold-hearted ex is not a cold-blooded killer. . .

But finding that treasure can be murder.

I was drawn to TAGGED TO DEATH because I love deals. I love yard sales. Okay, I love the idea of yard sales, tag sales and the like. I'm a bit of a germaphobe, so while I have had many yard sales, I don't attend them very often.

So, TAGGED TO DEATH and the other great titles in the Sarah Winston Garage Sale Mysteries allow me to enjoy the fun and trill of the hunt vicariously! Rather on one, or reading about one, who doesn't love a good treasure hunt?

In TAGGED FOR DEATH you'll meet series namesake, Sarah Winston who is a go get em protagonist who makes a life for herself in what seems to be an impossible town to do so since her ex-husband is the police chief. Thrown in murder, and of course amazing deals, and you have a cozy mystery that's a treasure to read!

Sherry also offers some great garage sale tips not only for buyers, but sellers as well! Ideas for saving, and for making money!

At the time of this posting 8/7/2017 the paperback of TAGGED TO DEATH is on sale for $6.o9 on Amazon and for international buyers for $6.o9 on Book Depository. Talk about a great deal! It's the perfect time to start this great series!

ON HER MAJESTY'S
FRIGHTFULLY SECRET SERVICE
Book 11 in the Royal Spyness Mysteries
by Rhys Bowen

HARDCOVER

In the new Royal Spyness Mystery from the New York Times bestselling author of Crowned and Dangerous, Lady Georgiana Rannoch juggles secret missions from the Queen, Darcy, and her mother. But it’s all in a day’s work when you’re thirty-fifth in line to the British Crown.

When Darcy runs off on another secret assignment, I am left to figure out how to travel to Italy sans maid and chaperone to help my dear friend Belinda, as she awaits the birth of her baby alone. An opportunity presents itself in a most unexpected way—my cousin the queen is in need of a spy to attend a house party in the Italian lake country. The Prince of Wales and the dreadful Mrs. Simpson have been invited, and Her Majesty is anxious to thwart a possible secret wedding.

What luck! A chance to see Belinda and please the queen as I seek her permission to relinquish my claim to the throne so I can marry Darcy. Only that’s as far as my good fortune takes me. I soon discover that Mummy is attending the villa party and she has her own secret task for me. Then, Darcy shows up and tells me that the fate of a world on the brink of war could very well depend on what I overhear at dinner! I shouldn’t be all that surprised when one of my fellow guests is murdered and my Italian holiday becomes a nightmare...

MY REVIEW

A royal entry into the Royal Spyness Mysteries!

Author Rhys Bowen continues to overwhelm me with her knowledge of not only the 1930’s, but the royalty and aristocracy of the time. It’s as though she has traveled there and witnessed these things herself.

Lady Georgiana Rannoch, is thirty-fifth in line for the British crown. However, Georgiana is more interested in withdrawing from the line of succession so she can wed her love, Darcy O’Mara. I can’t say I blame her one bit! However, in, ON HER MAJESTY’S FRIGHTFULLY SECRET SERVICE, thoughts of marriage have to go on hold when Darcy is off on another secret mission, and Georgie has been asked by her cousin the queen to go to Italy and do some spying for her. And so begins another delightful rump with our unique heroine.

This book was simply astounding. On the same level with any Agatha Christie novel (Honestly, I think it’s better), ON HER MAJESTY’S FRIGHTFULLY SECRET SERVICE was an adventurous ride full of mystery and excitement. From one chapter to the next I didn’t know what to expect. Truly an all-round brilliant read that I didn’t want to end.

I would love to see the Royal Spyness mysteries made into movies, but they would have to stay 100% true to the way author Bowen has written them.

Author
Kathi Daley
has a new book!

You know what that means don't you?

*****!!!GIVEAWAY!!!*****

Kathi is celebrating the release of
THIRD STRIKE
Book 3 in the Writer's Retreat Southern Seashore Mysteries

In this third book in the Writer's Retreat Mystery Series set on fictional Gull Island, a sports related death is explored when Trey Alderman, Gull Island’s most important claim to sport fame, is murdered. Trey was the starting pitcher for the Gull Island Seagulls who went on to stand out nationally amongst college players while attending The University of South Carolina. It was assumed by most that he would be a top draft pick a year and a half ago and it seemed at the time that the sky was the limit in terms of his career. Trey came home for spring break during his senior year and while on the island he agreed to play in a charity event held in Charleston. The game, which featured other draft hopefuls, was a one run game. It was the bottom of the ninth, tying run on third, bases loaded, two outs, full count, and the tension was high. The pitch was thrown, everyone in the crowd held their breath. Trey lined up with the pitcher and swung the bat with all his might before falling to the ground. He was pronounced dead at the scene. It was later determined that he died of a heart attack. He was twenty-two, healthy, and, as far as anyone knew, he had no preexisting heart condition. It was later determined that he had a drug mixture in his system that could lead to a heart attack when combined with extreme stress. The local investigator determined that he had most likely engaged in recreational drug use at the party he attended the previous evening.

It's
Cozy Food Friday

That means it's time to share a recipe from
another great cozy mystery!

Today I'm featuring
MUFFIN TO FEAR
Book 4 in the Five-Ingredient Mysteries
by Victoria Hamilton

In the latest from the national bestselling author of Much Ado About Muffin, newlywed baker Merry Wynter has some unwanted guests looking for ghosts at Wynter Castle…

While Merry is distracted by her quickly planned marriage to Virgil Grace and a blissful honeymoon in New York, her friend Pish invites the ghost-hunting crew from the TV show Haunt Hunt to investigate Merry's home, Wynter Castle. Merry soon discovers that not only is the crew out of sync, there are so many feuds and squabbles, it's a miracle they get a show produced at all.

It all goes from bad to worse when the show's psychics claim to have contact with people murdered on Merry's property. When two cast members are found dead, Merry and Virgil must figure out who’s picking off the Haunt Hunt team before their hard-earned happily ever after is cut short.

INCLUDES DELICIOUS RECIPES!

MY REVIEW

Anything written by author Victoria Hamilton is a go to, must read book for me. And the Merry Muffin Mysteries may be the yummiest of them all.

I’ve been waiting for, MUFFIN TO FEAR about as patiently as I would for a delightful treat baking away in my oven, which equals not very patient at all! ;-) I was so excited when I read the blub for this book. TV ghost hunters at Wynter Castle? YAY! (Yes, I am one of those people who loves watching all of the ghost hunting shows on TV). However, author Hamilton took the excitement of searching for spirits a step further by killing off two of the cast members of the show. Talk about exciting!

This 5 star mystery started off on a delightful note, and had me running a gambit of emotions until the last page. From the joy of Merry and Virgil’s marriage, to the rowdy upheaval of having the TV crew looking for ghosts, through the shock of two murders and the investigation that followed, and a scene that had me sighing contentedly, I honestly did laugh and cry from the prologue to the last chapter.

Muffin should stand in your way of reading MUFFIN TO FEAR, the best in the Merry Muffin Mysteries so far!

And don’t forget to check out the delicious recipes at the back of the book. Mmm Mmm.

On to the recipe!

GLUTEN-FREE PECAN PIE MUFFINS

All food photos are borrowed from Google Images and its contributors, with many thanks.
Your finished muffins will very in appearance.

Makes 12 muffins
Ingredients

1 cup brown sugar
1/2 cup coconut flour
2 cups finely chopped pecans (leave a few in larger chunks)
2./ cup softened butter
2 eggs, beaten

Directions

Preheat oven to 350° F.

Grease muffin cups generously or the muffins will stick! I (Victoria Hamilton) used butter-flavored spray oil. Don't use paper liners, since they will not peel off these muffins easily.

In a medium bowl, mix brown sugar, flour, and pecans. In a larger bowl beat butter and eggs together. Combine dry ingredients into wet until just combined. This batter is gravelly and dense. Spoon batter into muffin cups until 2/3 full.

Bake for 15-17 minutes. These will not rise much, so don't be surprised! Let cool slightly and then run a knife around the sides of the muffins to ease them out.

If you have to go gluten free, this is the way to go! Yum!

My Book Beginnings

Prologue

Reader, I married him. That is certainly the most famous line of all from romantic fiction, is it not?

My 56

She stuffed it back in her pocket, leaned forward slightly, glanced around, and muttered, "I told him about when I was a teenager, and my brothers dared me to climb into the garage on the Wynter property. I saw something that night and I'll never know what it was, but it was not human! I never went back."
