BOOK TOUR
I'm happy to be a stop on the blog tour for
LEFT FUR DEAD
Book 1 in the Jules and Buns Mysteries
by J. M. Griffin
On Fur Bridge Farm, Jules cares for rescued rabbits. But when a killer strikes, she'll need a rabbit to rescue her . . .
Juliette “Jules” Bridge prides herself on the tender rehabilitation she provides for injured or abused rabbits on her New Hampshire rescue farm, but she has a very special relationship with one bunny in particular. Bun is a black-and-white rabbit who happens to have the ability to communicate through mental telepathy. Once she got over the shock, Jules found her furry friend had a lot to say.
One frigid March morning on their walk together, Bun spots a body. The police identify the frozen stiff as Arthur Freeman, aka Arty the Mime. Jules and Arty knew each other on the children's party circuit, where he’d perform magic tricks and she had an educational rabbit petting pen. With Bun egging her on, Jules decides it’s time they hop to it and put their heads together to discover who silenced the mime. But their investigation leads them down a rabbit hole of more suspects and lies, while a killer sets a trap for them.

A Chat with J. M. Griffin
LKBR: Thank you for being here today, JM
JMG: Thanks
for having me, I’m delighted to be here.
LKBR: Please
tell us a bit about you, and your book/series.
JMB: I’ve
been an author since 2006, my first series consisted of the Vinnie Esposito
series which takes place in Rhode Island. From there, I began to feature cats
in my books. Then the idea of having a telepathic rabbit who enjoys solving
murders came along, and that’s when Bun entered the picture. The Jules and Bun mysteries
is at the moment a three book series. Together, Jules and Bun become embroiled
in solving crimes, much to the police department’s dismay. Bun has a great
personality and a sharp, yet humorous, wit.
LKBR: Any hints
or spoilers you can give us about your next book?
JMB: In
the second book in this series, which will be released in February 2020, Bun
and Jules become entangled in the murder of a mean spirited and blackmailing
woman attending a children’s birthday party. When Jules’ friend is implicated
in the crime, Jules and Bun investigate. What they learn about the dead woman
is mind boggling at best. As they grow closer to exposing the killer, Bun is
stolen, or rather Bun-napped. Jules freaks out and mayhem reigns. What happens
from there, I can’t say, but I will tell you all is revealed in the book.
LKBR: Have you ever written a scene that you loved but had to
remove it for the sake of the story?
JMG: There
are times when I give too much away, too soon and my editor reminds me of that.
That means a rewrite of the scene is in order, no matter how much I don’t want
to take it out.
LKBR: Have you ever
gotten reader’s block? Just find it hard to get into reading
because you are so into your writing?
JMG: It is a constant
battle for me. Having been an avid reader since childhood, I face the challenge
of carving out enough time in my schedule to read.
LKBR: Are there any
magazines/publications that as a writer you subscribe to? Are these or others
something readers could also benefit from?
JMG: I subscribe to Mystery Scene Magazine and Ellery Queen’s
Mystery Magazine. Both of those publications offer a lot to their readers, such
as in-depth articles, author interviews,
essays, and book reviews. Subscribers always look forward to learning about
writers and how we live, what makes us tick, if you will.
LKBR: Is there anything
you would give up if you thought it would make you an even better writer?
JMG: Nothing I can think of, other than chocolate. 😉
LKBR: Any new projects
in the works?
JMG: I’m
currently working on the third book in the Jules and Bun series. I have a plot
in mind for another Esposito series novel, but until I finish the manuscript
for Bun book three, all else has to wait. Besides I love writing about Jules
and Bun’s crazy antics.
LKBR: If you
could ask your readers 3 questions, what would they be?
JMG: What
draws you to a series?
What do
you look for in a mystery?
How much
time do you devote to reading?
LKBR: Where can
readers go to learn more about you and your books?
JMG: www.jm-griffin.com
LKBR: Thank you
so much, JM for letting us get to know you better!
JMB: It has been a pleasure, thank you.

MY REVIEW
I
at one time owned 5 rabbits, so I was excited to see this book. I didn’t know
at the time that Buns the rabbit talked telepathically to his owner/friend
Jules. I’m not normally big on cozy mysteries with a paranormal twists
(para-cozies), but I really wanted to give this one a try.
LEFT
FUR DEAD, the first in the Jules and Buns Mysteries, is an interesting start to
this new series. I enjoyed the original premise of a rabbit rescue. They really
are dear little creatures, and I like the thought of a place like Fur Bridge
Farm really existing.
The
mystery in this book was four star for me. It was well thought out by author J.
M. Griffin. I was close to solving it, but not until the reveal did it all really
make sense.
I
have to be honest and say, I never fully warmed up to the characters in this
story. If I had to put my finger on it, I would say it was something in the way
author Griffin had them speaking. Maybe a little too, hmmm, proper? I just feel
with the subject matter, and a telepathic bunny, they would have spoken a bit
more casual. Now, this is just me. Don’t let that be your deciding factor of rather
or not to read this book, because it is a good story.
If
you’re an animal lover, and/or enjoy para-cozies, as well as the fun quirkiness
of a telepathic pet, LEFT FUR DEAD is the book for you. I look forward to
reading the next book in the series to see how it progresses.

ReplyDeleteThank you for your review on "LEFT FUR DEAD" by J. M. Griffin and for being part of the book tour.
ReplyDeleteEnjoyed reading the interview with the author. In answer to her questions - I am drawn to a series by the author's writing, characters we either fall in love with or dislike but can't get enough of and that the storyline from one book to the other is smooth and makes sense. I love mysteries that are fun, unusual and not totally predictable. I try to read every day. Sometimes it's just a little bit in between chores when I take a short break and other days it's for long periods of time. Some books just keep calling you back to read just one more page. :)
I'd love the opportunity to read "LEFT FUR DEAD".
