BUY A WHISKER
Book 2 in the Second Chance Cat series
by Sofie Ryan

Sofie Ryan's charming follow-up to The Whole Cat and Caboodle in the New York Timesbestselling Second Chance Cat Mystery series

Things have been quiet in the coastal town of North Harbor, Maine, since Sarah Grayson and her rescue cat, Elvis, solved their first murder. Sarah is happy running Second Chance, the shop where she sells lovingly refurbished and repurposed items. But then she gets dragged into a controversy over developing the waterfront. Most of the residents—including Sarah—are for it, but there is one holdout—baker Lily Carter.

So when Lily is found murdered in her bakery, it looks like somebody wanted to remove the only obstacle to the development. But Sarah soon discovers that nothing is as simple as it seems. Now, with the help of her cat’s uncanny ability to detect a lie, Sarah is narrowing down the suspects. But can she collar the culprit before the ruthless killer pounces again?

MY REVIEW

Author Sofie Ryan has penned a purrfect second book in the Second Chance Cat series. Sarah Grayson, her cat Elvis, and all the wonderful supporting characters from THE WHOLE CAT AND CABOODLE are still a delight. I really enjoyed the many creative rehab projects carried out by Sarah and the others. And Elvis the cat is a lot of fun to read!

I became so absorbed in this story, trying first to figure who was tormenting baker Lily Carter with awful pranks/warnings, to trying to decide, who among a list of many suspects who ends up killing her. I was very surprised when the reveal finally came and I learned things were much more complex than I could have ever guessed.

Ms. Ryan has written a mystery with as many twists and turns as a cat weaving around your ankles. A real winner for mystery fans, as well as for cat lovers.

Readers will agree, BUY A WHISKER is the cat’s meow!

SHADOW OF A SPOUT
Book 2 in the Teapot Collector Mystery series
by Amanda Cooper

Avid teapot collector Rose Freemont takes a break from her Victorian tea house only to find a new mystery brewing elsewhere...

Leaving her home in Gracious Grove behind her, Rose is off to the annual convention of the International Teapot Collector’s Society. Her granddaughter Sophie is minding the tea house while she’s away. Rose is eager for tough cookie Zunia Pettigrew to appraise a prized antique teapot she believes may be a holy water vessel from China.

But when Zunia declares the pot a fake, Rose is really steamed. After Zunia’s found dead beside Rose’s dinged-in teapot, Sophie must rush to her grandmother’s aid and find the real killer—before Rose is steeped in any more trouble…

MY REVIEW

Author Amanda Cooper has brewed another winning cup of mystery with her second addition to her Teapot Collector Mystery series.

As with book one, TEMPEST IN A TEAPOT, this book was written from different POVs. It follows several of the characters through the story, allowing the reader to actually be in key scenes as opposed to “hearing” about them through other characters in the book.

While I was surprised SHADOW OF A SPOUT left Auntie Rose’s Victorian Tea House and Gracious Grove behind with this being only the second book in the series (a lot of authors may have waited until further into a series), I found it to be very enjoyable. Well done, Ms. Cooper. That being said, I do look forward to getting back to Gracious Grove.

The mystery of who killed Zuna Pettigrew (love that name), was not short on suspects, with main character Rose Freemont topping the list. I had my suspect all picked out and ended up being very wrong. I love when a book does that to me.

With SHADOW OF A SPOUT, author Copper has certainly assured there will be more books in this wonderful series. Especially with the last few paragraphs bound to leave readers steeping as they wait.

Don’t miss A Cup Of Enlightenment at the back of the book (right after a yummy Cherry Blossoms Cookie recipe). It’s a wonderful and extremely interesting explanation on types of tea and how to steep them properly, written by Karen Owen aka Karen Mom of Three who writes the blog and FB pages, A Cup Of Tea And A Cozy Mystery. I’d love to see more of these features in future books in this series.

MY REVIEW

I was so excited when I first heard about this series. I’ve never been in a book club, but it’s something I would love to do. Until that time, I’m happy I can enjoy the experience through series such as this one.

I always read the dedications and acknowledgements on books. So, I would like to thank Ms. DiSilverio for dedicating this first book in her new series to us, the readers.

There are books you know you are going to love after just a few sentences. THE READAHOLICS AND THE FALCON FIASCO for me was one of those books. I was immediately hooked.

Amy-Faye Johnson is such a fun character. First person hasn’t always been my favorite form of storytelling, though through reviewing I’ve grown used to it, I can’t imagine this story being told any other way than through Amy-Faye’s narration. I could hear her voice in my head so vividly. The entire cast of characters were very fleshed out and well written. I have no doubt every reader of this series will find a character they can identify with.

The mystery aspect in the story is first rate. Even when my eyes were tired and hurting, I couldn’t put this book down. I was pulled in page after page until the exciting end.

If you are selective on the new series you choose to start, do yourself a favor and try this book. You will not be disappointed.

Congratulations Laura DiSilverio on a brilliant start to what I hope with be a long running series!
